Does Anybody Actually Play BF2 Mods?

I was looking at all the pretty mods that www.totalbf2.com has to offer. I was almost interested to download some for myself.

But then I looked again. All of them have HUGE download sizes and yes, I have got a 2.5mb connection, but is it really worth it?

Does anyone actually play on these mods? If so which ones? Are they any good? Do they offer more fun than regular BF2?

I need answers people! I love playing mods for HL2 as they are so well done! eg: The Hidden: Source, Battlegrounds 2 and things like that. But the ones for BF2 look a little......Well...... boring!

So anyone play on them? (The BF2 ones)

I have several downloaded, and they are great. However, I can never find any servers running them, so I don't play them online.
EDIT: Ah, just though, I may have had the ranked servers only selected. I'll check after dinner if it works without the filters.

The sad thing is that nobody plays many Mods because of the STAT system, most people are just bothered about ranks and medals and nothing else.

So nobody is making good mods because they no nobody will play on them, which is a shame.

Only thing what I can say is that I'm glad no Stats were in BF1942, because if there was then D.C. probably wouldn't have taken off.

I played stunts mod with a few friends.. got old after and hour, mods aren't that fun, not enough players for one.

I play on mods a lot, OPK, CQC, AI, etc. Unfortunately many mod players wander back to their favorite 24/7 city maps servers after a few days, after all they gotta get that expert first aid badge and get colonel by Christmas....

I used to play OPK and USI. Unfortunately, there are too many BF2-players who live for points and since Mods can't be ranked, there are only few players...

So baisic concensus is that there are only a few mods out, even fewer are worth playing and there are no players due to the stats system! Baisically BF2 mods are screwed!

This is why I love Half-Life and Half-Life 2 so much! They are sooooooo unbelievably easy to mod! Look at the thousands of high-quality mods for HL1 and the hundreds for HL2!

So if a developer wants extended gameplay then they should make a in-built map-maker that is ranked (if they so desire) and to compress the maps so much that you could easily download them while playing on a server!

Also if the modding tools were very easy to do, I know "Garry's Mod" (which I love) is all based around LUA coding that again, makes it amazingly easy to mod!

90% of bf2 mods are just a facelift of the same game.

star wars
ad nauseum

i'm looking forward to the mods that actually put in NEW GAMEPLAY instead of a cosmetic surgery type BS.

Good point! I want one that isn't set in Vietnam, Korea or WWII! And these stupid mods have taken so long to come out because of the lame tools that are given to them, that the new Battlefield is out!

Seems pointless to me.

The mods for BF2 are generally huge in size and being in deep beta status. So I think I will download some good mods closer to the end of the year, when they will be fully done and out hopefully.
The mod I've been playing recently is a HL1 mod called Action Half-Life. If anyone of you guys got HL1, I recommend you to download this mod, as it's lots of fun, especially when you play online.
