Ever since last night I cant get my BF2 to work! I was in practice on SF and decided to switch over to multiplayer on my regular account. When I did the computer froze and I restarted. When I got back into BF and got into a game, I moved maybe 10 feet and the thing froze again. So today I uninstalled and reinstalled and also patched (full version) it to 1.3 and it still does it. I uninstalled everything inc SF. I did a virus scan, adware scan and nothing. WTF!?!?! It was working one minute and now it doesnt?!@?@?@?! this is pissing me off.

Any assistance, guidance, divine intervention would be greatly appreciated.

Here...have a cold one on me...that really sucks!

But seriously...consider these things
1) Have you installed any new programs on your computer?
2) Have you changed any system settings?
3) Have you changed your hardware configuration?
4) Is all your system hardware operating as it should?

Everything looks and acts fine. I can play single player on the highest setting and have no problems. I havent added any new programs lately so I am at a loss as to why its happening. After 100+ hours youthink it would be fine but I guess PC's are a wee bit on the touchy side. sigh!

Did you recently update your Virus protection?

If so, try removing it. If you see a huge difference then it was the Virus protection slowing up your connection. (I had the same issue, although I never froze up.)

I did update it, I will check it. But its not slowing it down, its freezing the whole thing up. It worked perfectly up untill last night.

Well that might be it. I had to remove the whole thing because when I tried to shut it down I would get a message saying access denied.

I had a similar problem. It worked with Multiplayer but on singleplayer it crashed after some seconds. I found the the setup which control NET speed (cable 256kps, LAN) is the problem. When set to LAN it crashes.
Also I had some probs with my X850 Radeon with 4* anti aliasing. Check these two settings.

it seems to me that this isnt a single persons problem ie: settings, anti virus.   there are several people that are having this same exact sudden problem.  fucking videos games, i hate them

Might it be Punkbuster?

I have had the same problem.  Last night I went to play and my BF2 would just lock up after a few seconds of being in the server.  ANd it is a hard lockup and I get a loud sound through the speakers.  So I decided that it must be drivers and updated them.  It didnt help.  So I went to bed...  But today I uninstalled and then reinstalled BF2 and all 3 mods.  I still get the problem.  I manually updated punkbuster because there was a new release yesterday and I still get the problem.

I am at a loss of what to do next.  I do not believe that a complete manual reinstall is going to fix this. So I am at a standstill.  I have noticed that I am not the only one that starting to have a problem as of YESTERDAY (Monday July 24th, 2006).  So I kinda think it might have something to do with the maintanace release of PB.

ANyways, I am out of ideas on what to do, I hope someone might have a suggestion that will solve this issue.

Ok, I did everything that you guys told me. Got rid of my virus scan, checked the net speed thingy, deleted the cache files and it didnt help. I also did a software restore to last week and that didnt help either. Why oh why do we put up with this shite?!?! When does Crysis come out? Or Quakewars? I am buying those and may play (if it gets to workin someday) BF when I want to be reminded of the crashing and frustrations. Seriously, this blows.

from another forum that I have been reading, it has been figured out that the problem is punkbuster and their new maintainance release....

I've had similar issues caused by Punkbuster.  YMMV of course, but try the manual PB update and see if that helps.

this is such bullshit.  ive called EA twice, and gotten all the canned answers.  bypass your router, power cycle your modem, close all backround apps, etc.  i cant log into multiplayer servers at ALL.  i will try the link above next, see if that helps

There was an update on PB.
I got it manually on Tuesday.
Don't know if it's that though
