I've had similar issues caused by Punkbuster.  YMMV of course, but try the manual PB update and see if that helps.

It is punkbuster. I made a ticket with them, and they said to connect to their test server. Did it with my  backup of BF2, as the one I'm using is patched to 1.4 beta2.

It had an old version of PB, and I connected normally, punkbuster said everything was fine. I then manually patched the PB to current version, and connected again. This time I got kicked for corrupt file/memory. So it's either we all have faulty RAM or it's punkbuster going nuts, because I saw a lot of people getting kicked for corrupt memory when I connected with old version. And there was me thinking "Oh, so they use this server to test if PB detects hacks". Fat chance.  I'm still waiting for their answer.

They seem to work fast, so it might come in a couple of hours. The first one did.

P.S. When your comp hangs, just wait a while. It starts to respond after a while, and you either loose connection(bad), or if it's just a short hang, you can play the map. At least that's the way with beta servers. It is true though that I had one blue screen and had to restart.
