I currently have a friend who needs some serious help too help find out what this problem is.

Setup:
DFL Lan Party 939 Board
AMD64 3000+
Nvidia EVGA 256MB 7800GT (Tweaks R Us Drivers 81.95)
WinXP Pro SP2 Fully Updated
2 Gig Geil Ram
36 Gig 10K Raptor Drive
200 Gig IDE Drive
Fresh install of XP 2 days olds

This happens whenever he trys to load a night map on the new expansion.  Doesn't matter which one.
It will crash at 15% or 47% to the desktop of reboot his system entirely.  An image of the error he is getting is at http://www.macsog.com/images/crash.jpg
We tried lowering ALL the ingame settings and nothing helped.  I repeat this ONLY happens on NIGHT maps.  Funny thing is I have a lower system with a 6600GT and mine doesnt crash like this.  Does anyone have ideas or have a simliar issue after getting the expansion.  Please any help would be appreciated.

hmm, tweaks r us drivers?  not quite sure what that is, but i'm thinking it's not WHQL certified.  try using WHQL video drivers...

if your tweaky drivers ARE certified, disregard me...

I have a question:

Why are you running 64bit hardware with a 32bit OS? Granted, there is no performance increase in gaming by using a 64bit OS and hardware, but why would you spend all that extra money on 64bit hardware and then slap a 32bit operating system on it? That's like having a dual processor system and running a version of windows that doesn't support SMP.

Also - don't use custom drivers. Just go to NVIDIA's site and download their latest set.

If you were running 64bit XP, I'd blame it on that. The game is not QAd or supported on 64bit XP and most drivers out there are sub-par on XP. Just enough to "get the job done". However, since you're running 32bit XP on it, I don't know that it would be a problem. The 32bit version of XP would have lower overhead, so you'd actually come out a little bit above on the performance front (64bit XP is even more of a resource hog). So even though there's all of that hardware going to waste, it's no big deal if you have to use it one way or another.

Don't install 64bit drivers. You aren't running a 64bit OS. You might want to make sure you've cleaned out all 64bit drivers that you might have tried to install before applying any other driver updates.

that's why we get 64 bit hardware and run it on a 32 bit OS.  we're waiting for them to fix win xp x64...

or at least that's why i do...

can I just say EA should suck my dick.  My SF gets to the point of optimizing shades, then I before I can go and click on Join I get to enjoy my desktop.  I have the latest drivers (did it on 77. drivers too) 81.somthing, and nothing.  I have been running BF2 just great for months, no problems...now this shit. I would LOVE to be near their Corp so I can shit on some programmers car, or bicycles.

Glad to hear other people are having simliar issues.  And no I am not a stupid moron that would run a 64 bit OS when there is no benefits for doing so.  Those people just need to be shot.  I submitted a topic to EA about this as well.

ok...do this. Mine works now.
Make sure you have latest drivers.
reinstall Directx 9.0c
reinstall BF2 patch 1.12
I think that you may just reinstall the 1.12 patch and it should fix it.

....EA can still suck a dick. =O

Solution for CTD/Mid Level Load Crashes SF XPack MUST READ Fixed My Bud's Problem.

Here is the story:

I dled the game from EA and then ran the 1.2 patch.  And my game runs crash free besides the occasional CTD that BF2 has always had.  My friends comp bought the disc installed then SF XPack and patched 1.2.  His game would CTD or reboot his computer always at the game loading screen especially for a NIGHT map (Single or Multi).  We tried everything from:

New Drivers Chipset, Video, Sound.
Reinstall BF2 and XPack.
Mem Test.
Video Card Bios Flash.
Everything we aren't computer newbies and knew how to troubleshoot since we do it everyday in our job.
So nothing worked at all to solve his issues.  EXCEPT

We decided to try copying files from my computer which was working.  We copied all the zip files from c:\program files\EA Games\battlefield 2\mods\xpack\

Files Replaced and Overrite:
Common_Client
Common_Server
Fonts_Client
Fonts_Server
Menu_Client
Menu_Server
Objects_Client
Objects_Server
Shaders_Client
And the ENTIRE LEVELS FOLDER

Once all this was overrite run the game in BF2SF mode and try a new map.  It took a while to optimize shaders and thought it was going to crash but it finally LOADED.  And worked.  If anyone has a friend whos game seems to be working fine try this method and maybe this will solve your problem.  I hope this helps out some of you having these same types of issues loading any of the new maps.
