Already in a clan but no VOIP possibility so that's like 1/2 of step 1. I'm getting better with Choppers so that's good. I don't even bother with jets anymore, too much competition and TKing involved and I can't out turn jets when i'm locked even though it's on 8.00 sensitivity for planes, I suck at air-air combat but i'm a pretty good bomber for fighter jets. That's funny, on most Karkand maps I've played, there are medics galore. Here's a tip, play the medic on the team. Stay back with the SL, let the front guys do the main assaulting, and pick off the wounded enemies. If everyone else on your team is dead, run like hell back to the SL.. If all your concerned about is a better K/D ratio, then tankwhore. That'll rack up lots of kills and keep you relativly safe.
Try tweaking your graphics to a lower setting if your lagging.
Try and adjust your mouse sensetivity somewhat. The default makes you turn REALLY slow.
My best defense to not getting killed is KEEP MOVING! Don't stop moving. You stop and your dead. Pondering why theirs a fire in the building across from the Hotel is just what a sniper needs for an easy kill.
And finally, squads that stick together allow you to live alot longer. Especially with a couple of medics. Every medic loves a teammate who dies alot close to them. Easy points for them, and you get to live a little longer.
To reiterate:
Stop playing Assault. That extra armor really doesn't help that much, versus the medic pac advantage. Assault is really best for those who have fast reflexes and excellent aim, in addition to fast computers. Play medic and stay behind the armored grunts.

-Add good players to your leaderboard. See when they're playing and join their server. Even one skilled Medic with you can keep your KDR good.
-Face it. Very few people are consistent. You're going to have some amazing days where you go like 38-10 groundpounding and other days where at best you get 8-15. The more practice you get in, the better your 'normal' days are, and your great days will be greater and your bad days not too bad.
-Practice. You won't develop these skills strongly overnight. Just always follow these tips when playing. I'm still developing my skills... but I'm starting to get at least a 1.2 KDR on a bad day. I can get like 3.0 on a good one... 1.4 on a normal day. Of course, if I had a dedicated medic squad I'd do a lot better but you gotta work with what you got.

My K/D is very close to yours. This was my first FPS an when I was a little nub, my K/D was about .45. I've gotten it up to about .63, but its rising very slowly. I tend to get positive k/d rounds, but every once in a while I'll go something like 2-12. .

Try to be aware of what happens in CQB. If you have to lift your mouse when circle-strafing the mouse sensitivity may be too low. Of course raising it will make it harder to aim on longer distances.
A lot of people have a hard time finding their niche on the battlefield and just wander around with no real purpose and get stray kills and get killed. What you need to do is find something your good at and do it. Chances are you will get better at it. Like what I noticed when playing with high ranking people is that they do what they do all the time. In armored fury you will find them on the airfield waiting for a plane or you will find them cruising in a tank or in the case of other sort of ranking people like blazin you will find them ground pounding. The key is to find your place in the battlefield and stay in it.
Me I found my place whorring any vehicle I can since im sick and tired of being on the receiving end of vehicles. I wont ground pound unless I am playing SF in a map where I wont constantly be killed by tanks or bombs.

1. ping matters
Playing alot on odd times in servers far away (ping 125 -150 ) i found out (the hard way ) that commanding from a bombproof place improves your K-D ratio greatly. key is timing and position the ARTY fire correctly.
Try to get this routine
a. deploy UAV,
b .wait till you done a complete RADAR scan,
c. then place arty on enemy concentrations/flagpoints turning white
d. rightclick/leftclick on the CAPSLOCK command-map to spot armor/jets/infantry ouside range of UAV (zoom 2x or 3x)
If your on servers with a ping like that, playing among pingers with 20 - 50, you have to aim and fire in infantry close combat battles 5 times faster/more accurate to compete...
2. rig matters
Better video settings (all set medium, AA off) allows you to spot enemies faster, aim better
2 GB RAM makes you spawn THE fastest on any - new - rotation map the next round, which gives you an advantage if you want to use armor/vehicles. Armor usually give higher SPM and better K-D ratios , if you have experience in it.
3. helping your team winning rounds feels great, no matter what kit/vehicle, and no matter your ratios .
4. practice a vehicle you like in an empty multiplayer server, till you know what vehicle type suits you best.
edit: try with mouse sensitivity set to 3.5 or 4.0 for infantry and armor/planes/choppers to around 3.5 to 4.5

I know how you feel. Id say im a pretty good player... but even when i get camped, and no one is there to help it is Extremely frustrating, and sometimes i never get the revenge that I desire. Maybe I, or some other good chopper pilot should take u around in a chopper and let u mow down people. That way you can know what it feels when the table is turned.
In this game you just have to play smart. Not dieing is a Huge part of it. then theres being able to kill. I try to improve enough to that if I am ever in a 1 on 1 situation, say me vs another medic, I always win. This is very feasable if you play smart. Too bad this is not always the situation and you really have to get creative.
Watch my infantry video... you can see how i play. Of course these are clips of me not dieing... but i do die... i just take a few with me (hopefully at least one)
Learn how to prone spam and it will give you such an extreme advantage. You can use anything as a shield, and will be invicable from anyone infront of you if you do it correctly.
If you just run around like a chicken with your head cutoff, your bound to die. You need at least a general plan. One thing ive found to be very good for score at least... is if theres a group of people running around working together, be the one that drives. then get to the flag and stay in car, or at least get in flag radius b4 u get out. this gaurantees you get 4 points, while they get 2. of course.. get out if its about to blow up ... but if no one is in turret u can get in that too while capturing flag and rack up some points.
If someone kills you... why? Figure out what they are doing to kill you, then do it yourself. Like you say... you get killed by crappy guns... first theres no real crappy guns in this game... I personally only use default and enjoy mowing down people w/ upgrades. Just learn to shoot better. Spray and pray... does work... but not against someone good(well only sometimes). I used to spray and pray.. and its a hard habit to break... but short bursts that Actually are hitting the target is much better. Better yet... is shooting 1 or 2 bullets at their head... but that takes even more practice.
Now if your comps lag Is too much to handle... 1.. your settings better be on as low as possible. But having bad ping/ fps is very rough on a person... with that you cant ever be the BEST... but you can be good. At one point i had 200 ping and a 9800. I then found the joy of being a pilot. it is alot of fun and if you have a decent gunner... you can still own anyone you want.
