1. When did you first hear about the ROE?

2. Is it somewhere obvious in the game itself when you log in?

3. Is it mentioned in the little book that came in the plastic disc case?

I ask these questions, because, like probably a zillion other people, I saw a kid playing the game at Best Buy, bought it, plugged it in and started playing. I've never heard of an ROE until today. Hell when I did see it I thought it was another BF2S thing, not an EA thing.

Maybe I didn't pay very close attention when loading the game, or maybe I skipped something relevant, but if I wouldn't have logged into this server a few weeks ago to ask a few questions, I STILL wouldn't know there was some sort of official EA policy.

Idon't hack, exploit or any of that crap (wouldn't know how if I wanted to), but I have played pistol / knife servers, and I bet there are assloads of other people who log in and see "ranked: knife/pistol" and don't have an f-ing clue that it's against the rules.

Here's #4: Why aren't the Rules of Engagement on the BFHQ screen along with keyboard options and things like that... or are they?

Thanks, but man, I have never read a single one of those things "agree to this" things. I've got 900 programs on my computer, and I scroll straight to the bottom, and press I agree. Hell, it'd take a whole day to read some of those things. Better take Adobe Acrobat and Windows Media Player off my box too until I get a chance to read the rules...   ;-)

No it's not mentioned in the manual.  No it's not mentioned in the load screen.

Valid arguments about ROE can be made from either positive or negative standpoints.  My personal opinion is that it has little effect on the game no matter which side you favor.  Play the game the way you like to play the game.  Period.

Too many people spend WAY too much time worrying about some document written by people who are much more interested in making rules than in playing the actual game (in fact it would seem to me that these people are hoping to leverage this into a cash cow at some point).  Forget about the ROE, go play the game however you prefer to play it, and just try not to be a dick.  If you enjoy being a dick, well, that's your problem and some ROE document will never change it.  Thats about as simple as it gets.

The ROE has probably been the most hotly debated topic on these forums, yet when it comes right down to it, what effects does it have on the average player?  None.  Forget about the ROE and just play the game.  If you wanna be a dick well then knock yourself out (but god have mercy on your pitiful soul ).  ROE is pointless and ineffective (just look around at all the asshats in your average server if you dont believe me).

In the end, I'll say again, forget about the ROE and try not to be a dick.  If you can do these two things the ROE will never be worth the time it takes for you to read it.

I personally think that yes it should be alittle more apparent to new users of BF2. I also personally agree with every rule in there. Example is how do you know someone who got there expert knife badge the way your meant to get it which is in a full blown war going on a round you, from some stat padder that got it on a server that - thats all they do is knife revive knife revive. They got it the easy way, my daughter could get it on one of those servers.

I will also say that yes it's alright to play the way you want but the ROE I personally agree with fully...

When I bought the game I didn't know of the ROE.However I figured a game with a point and rank system would have some kind of checks and balances.I agree with the no padding, glitching or hacking part of it.I just don't agree with some of what servers are allowed to restrict.

what a good little lemming.

Ya know what?  I paid $50 for this game.  Then I paid $30 for SF.  Then I paid $10 for AF.  I'll play the damn game any way I find amusing.  I paid for it.  It's a game, and I'll enjoy it how I see fit.  Who are you or anyone else to tell me what the "proper" way to play a damn video game is?  There are points.  Points are made to be earned.  There are enemies, enemies are made to be killed ... and sometimes so are teammates when they're shit heads.

As I've seen in someone's sig (not trying to plagiarize, just can't remember the originator)

"Code it, don't ROE it"

Seriously, don't be a troll.

That is the EA TOS, not ROE.

1) when it first came out, I look at the sites of the games I buy.
2) No, its on the ea site.
3) No, roe came later on because people were fliping boats & repairing them & other stupid shit.
4) because it was an after thought.

The knife/ pistol servers were a big problem, but the knife badge was nerfed, strangly the pistol was not.
Just dont play in them again unless your uncaring about some little punk kid turning you in like inspector gadget to whipe your stats.

And finally your being a troll by posting that puck, something had to be done, he agrees with it, whats wrong with that, you personaly attack him & not the ones who made it up? Chill out.

1) Heard about it when I saw "New ROE posted" (or something) in the stickies and thought "What the hell is the ROE?" This was only a few days after I bought BF2, so I saved myself the trouble.

It's possible it could be mentioned. I haven't read through it in detail, but I may warrant it a visit soon...

2) I've never seen it there.
3) Refer to #2
4) I don't know, but I think it should.

A copy should be streamed from EAs site on each login, it's a few bytes of text; it won't make a difference, and can be checked in the "Community" tab. When you first login, I think the "News" pop up should say "Please read the Rules of the Ranked Server program!" or something.

Enough about the ROE. Everything that could possibly be discussed about the ROE has already been discussed in a previous thread, and anything more is unnecessary. If you want to talk about it further, do it on their forums.
