So, I got my expert ZIP line, Grapple and Tactical (Flashbang) badges all last night by using those devices over and over again. I even got kicked from one server for doing this.
Philosophically, I don't disagree with the thought that what I did was padding because I wasn't "playing" the game per se but this is NOT in the same class as working with a buddy on the opposing team to get stats. If a guy on your team doesn't want to work with others and wants to "practice" using his equipment, what's to stop him? If I'm being kicked for not playing with my team, I totally understand that. But come on.
I've dont worse "padding" other times. I was a engineer repairing assests and a Spec op was running around blowing them up. We stopped trying to kill each other and just went about each of our own business back there. I didn't know the guy, wasn't set up, but there it happened.
And none of my "padding" to get those badges helped my score in any way. Ultimately, BF2 stats are stupid. You can grab anyone off the leader board and say "Oh he's a medic whore", "He's an armor whore", "He's (fill in the blank)" and you discount their stats anyway. You really only care about your own stats. You perhaps compare them to your buddies.
But focusing on getting an expert badge that DOESN'T involve working with someone on the other team and DOESN'T improve my score.... what's the big deal? What do you all think? I'm ready for the flames....
