I just recently bought BattleField 2 Special Forces, installed it, got the patch and when I try to connect to a server I get a message that says..."Your cd-key installed with BF2:SF is not vaild, to purchase a real copy of BF2:SF click the button below" ..... I checked the cd-key several times, uninstalled, re-installed, I just don't understand...any ideas??

try not using a key gen and get a legal copy
If you did actually buy this game (Im going to assume you did since everyone else has been so quick to jump to conclusions and flame you), I would contact EA and see if you can get another one, I would expect they would almost definitely want to you post your game back to them though as proof of legit purchase etc.
There was most likely an error when printing your cd key, these things do happen, when I brought far cry it said my cd key was already in use.

well ea has maked an update for sf check it out.
I think it is higly unlikely that ur cd-key is invalid.. but anyway ask EA about it.. can't help you more than that..
I had the same problem when I downloaded it. I had to edit the registry to fix the key. I found this obscure fix somewhere but I lost the source. It fixed my invalid key error.
Follow these steps EXACTLY:
1) Run RegEdit or some comparable registry editor
2) Make a full registry backup
3) Go into the following registry path: My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Electronic Arts > EA GAMES > Battlefield 2 > ergc
4) Double-click on the "(Default)" entry in the "ergc" folder. This is where the CD-Key is directly stored
5) Under value data, type "x9392" in front of your full CD Key. No spaces, no dashes, like this: "x9392ABCD1234ABCD1234ABCD"
6) Close RegEgit, restart the game and give it a go.

This is just a guess, but I am pretty sure that the old xp non-admin user account bug is still alive and well. Make sure that the account you installed bf2:sf on has full admin access otherwise it will tell you you have an invalid cd-key.
When I attempted to register my copy of SF it said that my CD-key was in use or invalid. I saw a bunch of hex codes, I deleted it and typed in my CD-key with the dashes intact. It registered fine after that.
EA are fucking shit. I've had no problems up until now! Please Help if you can.

is what i'm using, I bought this game legit from work so I know nobody's had the cd-key or whatever before me cause I got it straight off the delivery van. A couple of thing's when you try and join a regular BF2 server with special forces is it normal for the game to go back to desktop, and load regular BF2 again bypassing the login and connecting to server? If so cool that's one mystery solved. But when I do get to connect to the server it tells me I have an invalid CD-KEY I know this worked before because I installed it before I reformatted yesterday and it worked ok. I tried the reg edit fix but it wouldn't let me join a server and came up with no error message.
Then when I went to uninstall SF and BF2 it helpfully told me that I had to install BF2 before SF's. Thanks for the info but I'm not installing is there any danger of it coming round to bite me in the ass if I manually delete all the BF2 files etc off the drive and install it on the other HDD?

I downloades the new patch, and after that i hav never played.. wana know why? Error: No connetction found, please check your connetions and trye again! Fucking shit! Why the hell are this happening to me now that i started to rock the docks!!!???? EA, YOU ARE SOOOO DEAD IF YOU DON'T FIX THIS SHIT, CAUSE I'M NOT THE ONLYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM!!!!
At first time i had the same problem. Game said invalid CD-Key. After that i start ea registry. In the small CD-Key-Line was some bullshit written. I wrote my regular CD-Key in and now it works.
