Ok, I've got it into my head that I can make a music video using BF2 footage, first attempt, and trying to find something to record in game footage.

GameCam which works beautifully in other games, gets me booted by PB, FRAPS which ive never used before, drops my framerate to 7FPS which is unplayable.

So my last thought, is to record a demo, but only problem is what in the world is the demo format? and is there a way to convert a .demo into an AVI or something similar for video editing.

Any thoughts out there as to what I can do? I see plenty of BF2 videos out there, but people must have some serious computing power to be able to have made those.

Have you tried lowering your video settings when recording?

I haven't, that is on my list of things to try tonite w/FRAPS. Guess I'll drop 'em to their lowest and see how that works.

There is a program called Battlelauncher 1.2, its a free download, and you can record camera tracks with it, its pretty easy to figure out, all you gotta do is record the camera tracks, (where you want the cam to be in the final product), and render, this is time consuming, it renders each frame individually into an AVI format, when you set it to do this, your computer is all but useless while rendering, so go watch a movie while this is happening.  Also, I highly recommend going to www.WMplugins.com and getting the XVID codec for Windows media player, it was the fastest rendering codec so far and is required to play in Windows media player.  Go to http://www.battlelauncher.com/ and DL the software, and follow the steps above.  If you need help, contact my Xfire d3v1ldr1v3r13, or my MSN tmoreau@cebridge.net.  Ill be happy to help you!  Later and good luck, thanks again for supporting us.

If you still encounter problems with fraps, make sure that NOTHING is running in the background on your system. I gained an extra 14 FPS when I did this. Allowed me to make some sniper videos.

It'll work.

Cool, dubbs, you may be my saviour.  Battlelauncher sounds like its EXACTLY what I need.

I have to say this may be the most useful forum I've been in.  You guys are quick on the draw, thanks for the info.

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes and post the finished product here.

OK, having spent the last few researching, this is what I have discovered, which will be of use to you Siciliano.

There is NO client-side recording using the built-in BF2 Battlerecorder, it appears the server you play on must be able to record for you some how, not sure just yet, still looking into that.

FRAPS and GameCam, 2 apps I mentioned before, are 3rd party Game Recording programs. They run in the background recording the game from your Point Of View. Problems, GameCam wont run on PunkBustered servers, because it runs as a 2nd D3D level and PB doesnt allow that.  FRAPS works well, 'cept its HUGE on the resources and causes your framerate to drop dramatically, causing the game to be almost unplayable, that is unless you have a kickass PC.

My next attempt will be to use FRAPS but drop my games video settings to the minimum and see if that works.

But, if you wish to use Battlerecorder, you can record in Single Player mode. Just start up a single player game, open the console by hitting the ~ key. Then type demo.recorddemo demoname and hit ENTER. hit the ~ key again to leave the console. Play your SP game, when you feel your finished recording, open the console again (~) and type demo.stoprecording and hit ENTER, it will stop recording and your done, then get BattleLauncher and follow the Guide on their site along with the BattleLauncher program.

Thats what I've uncovered in the last hour or so of research.

If anyone can let me know of a server that has BattleRecorder working on it, PLEASE?!?!?

i have seen videos of myself on servers with battlerecorder...i will look into which ones they were.  Secondly, i tried fraps and i just got a new computer (Athlon 3500+/ Asus A8m-vm/ 2 Gigs of Corsair XMS RAM/ Nvidia 7600 gt) and FRAPS still gave me problems, and whatever that other program was doesnt work on punkbuster servers so that defeats the purpose for the most part....so i am not sure how to use the battlerecorder stuff that BF2 comes with or whatever...if you can figure it out...please let me know, and i will get back to you on what servers i know of as of now that i can play on that will record....
