I have enough understanding of game programming to know this is a tough one to do. Most buildings in BF2 are low polygon models and thus do not take up much memory to load and display. However, I really hope someday we will be able to play in a virtual world much like our own. Where the buildings have floors, hallways and internal structures that could be attacked and destroyed. It take a lot to bring down an entire building (I know precision aerial bombs can).
Imagine a squad runs into a building for cover and a tank rolls around the corner and fires into the building wall. I huge hole is opened and a number of the squad combatants are killed. The remaining squad members run deeper into the building for more protection while the tank covers the front entrance. Just as the squad working with the tank starts to enter the building a number of unarmed civilians run out and the squad is forced to pick and choose who to shoot and who not to (shooting a civilian would be a negative like a team kill is). The squad enters the building and moves room to room looking for the enemy. In the mean time the enemy thinks it has given the good guys the slip and moves toward the entrance where it is surprised to find the tank waiting at a distance. The tank fires disintegrating (that would be cool to see) two enemy combatants and destroying another section of an already damaged building. The building begins to fall apart and the squad runs for the exits going down floor after floor praying they get out before the whole thing comes down. Just as the last of them hits the bottom floor and sees the light from outside the building comes down all around them. Some live by diving out a window or doorway and others are crushed by the falling building.
That would be cool to see and would certainly introduce us to more realistic aspects of modern combat.
OK, feel free to beat up on my idea and corny story line.
