I have a bad habit where I like to check top players stats in my free time. So i checked this fellow:

BlaZiN.uk

and noticed for his SAS special service medal it stated this:

Earning 4 should take you about 1,961,779 days

just so you know that is about 5734 years.

being amused by that I decided to check out how much 4500 hours really is that is exactly 187.5 days which is a little over half a year.

doesnt anyone think ea's requirements for these things are a little steep if not scary if you have someone who is a little deranged and decides they want a specific medal/award/ribbon?

Its all about trends in how much you play. It will not literally take that long, it's just that he probably never really used whatever badge it is.

are the SF medal requirements SERIOUSLY 4500 hours per army? that could possibly be the stupidest thing I've ever seen, and whats even more stupid is Dice will put out a patch to fix it, when they obviously could have learned from their first BF2 "requirments are too unreal" trip around the block.

well it actually will take literally 4500 hours as a designated army, and when you figure the odds of you playing as the same army everyimte you play + the fact that you have to play that game for literally half a year+ real life,  i dont really think many people will get more than 1 of those medals if anyone gets them at all.

dont get me wrong I like the challenge of earning stuff, but if the only criteria is to spend half of a year sitting there thats not really much incentive.  now if it was 4500 kills as that army or something, that I can understand.....

beef it isnt a badge it is a medal you have to play as a certain army for 4500 hours to earn it, and ubar's algorithim figured it should take him about 5 millenium to earn it.

just to tell you guys... blazin.uk is *******. yeah he has a good score. but i bet you anybody could beat him at combat. and at commandeering, he sucks, compare him to the other 2nd liutenants and you will see. he either cheats or is very VERY lucky. i mean he doesnt even have his basic command yet!!!!!! i dont look up to him coz hes no better than any of us who are higher than staff sergeant. also he cant even fly an aeroplane.

ive just worked it on a calculator that it will take you a little 3 years to earn all 6 medals and thats playing 24hours a day 365 days a year.
Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

im sure theyll change those reqs, as playing the same maps for that long, that would be crazy
they changed the other medals - i think they should drop em to 100 - 125 hours imo

why do you need less kills for a assault badge than a spec ops badge

yeah those 4500 hours are real life 4500 hours, the game doesnt operate on a different clocking scheme.

I agree the requirments for most badges, medals, and ribbons is ridiculous. Like the Expert command badge you need 10,000 command points and 30 minutes of game time IAR. In order to get 10,000 you would have to play as commander every single time almost. They really need to rethink thier damn ranking system.

idd for the combat infantry medal its just not fair.
Why do you need a huge 500 hours of play I allready have all of basic badges I even allmost have all of the Veteran.
But first i need to another 283 hours before i can earn it

actually i think the expert command badge is one of the easier expert badges to attain.  i dont even play commander all that much and i still have almost 3000 command points if i remember correctly.  itll probably be the next expert badge i get.

the 2x for every win helps a ton...i average about 50-60 command points per round...so if i win and that gets doubled...its really not all that bad.

My bad, it was a glitch in the server it said I played for 38hrs in one day... I did play alot that day because it was back in Oct when i first got the game, but not 38hrs, nor even 15hrs for that matter.

Well, the Expert Command badge is reasonable, you could do it in less than 100 matches (someone could do that in a week), if you command every time...

But for the new ones, unbeleivable, 4.5k hrs? Verdammt, das ist zu veil....

I don't really think the badges/medals/ribbons for bf2 are too unreasonable, but I don't see anyone having too many of the veteran/expert vehicle badges, those are asking for a lot of time.  4500 hours is insane though.

I agree the command badge is good because it relies on a person's ability to play as a commander, good commanders will inevitably earn more points than crappy commanders.  It is the badges/ribbons/medals that require X number of hours as a certain entity I am not keen on, for example I got most of my vechile badges just from screwing around and magically I got the badge bestowed upon me. I do not think I will get any of the advanced vehicle badges unless I make a consious effort to only drive a tank, transport or what have you.

You guys ever think they want to make some of these badges really really hard to get? Think about it. If they gave every G.I. A distinguished service medal wouldn't that debase the value? If they gave every Private or interpreter or Lindie English a Purple Heart, what the fuck would John Kerry have to brag about?

Setting the requirements high is not that of a problem but at the moment the requirements are way to high.
It´s ok that not every casual gamer will get them but even if your a passionated gamer who spends 2-3 hours a day playing BF2 it will take decades until you even get one lousy percent until you get close to the requirements.

the purple heart, distinguised service cross, navy cross, congressional medal of honor, and a good bulk of the medals in the real military dont require to my knowledge actual time limits, it means doing certain deeds. Seeing how this game has delusions of grandeur with the distribution of medals based on real ones, I agree some of them should be hard to get, however, Apathy Crusade,  there are privates who earned high level medals and honors.

If you really want an interesting read read about Alva "Smokey" Smith, he was a private and earned the highest medal offered by the Canadians in WW2, or Audie Murphy who as a 2nd Lt. earned the most honors of any man in the American Army during World War 2. For a more contemporary bad ass look at the Green Beret Robert L. Howard, he was nominated for the Congressinal Medal of Honor on three different occasions, since they could only give it to him once they ended up promoting him from a Sgt. to a Lt. He actually retired recently at the rank of Colonel.

But my main point is, I feel having a time limit of excess 100 hours or so on these things  is just silly and unrealisitic.  And on a side note to compare these silly little pixels to the real things does a major disservice to everyoe involved.

That is the Robert L. Howard website that details everything he did.

Thought I'd weigh in on this topic.  If you all remember, when BF2 first started, the requirements for the Awards were pretty unrealistic.  Also, the rank progression was hardly attainable.  After EA got a feel for how people were doing, they lowered the requirements for everything to a more reasonable and attainable score.  Give it some time and things will come back in line and you will be able to get the awards you want.  Like everything, it takes time to work out the bugs.

yeah to carry on from what you said, originally the requirements were some 4500 hours for bf2, they were changed in a patch, im sure that the same will happen
