when i try and join a sever it will kick me out the game completly, any ideas what the problem is??

Not sure if this is the same problem but I had this problem with the invalid CD Key error after trying to modify some settings. I had to uninstall everything completely and reinstall. I also had this type of error in bf1942 try to disable your sound card and start up bf2 again. And give that a test.
Have you updated your graphics drivers since patch? Also have you tried updating sound drivers and any other hardware updates that might help.

I had this problem also and I was very sad of it.
Then my clanmate told me to install the patch 1.12 once again after the installation of SF and.... it works...

I'm gonna try reinstalling, but one thing first. I've noticed on the Custom games section that it says BF2 V1.2 and SF V1.1. However my normal version number is correct on both games. And I can play singleplayer and create a local server.

mine works now mate, basically i uninstalled everything then reinstalled it all again . i also restarted my com after each stage so give it ago. i know its a bit of a bore bu once its done its done

It might be your graphics card, what one do you have? mine did the same thing too me and EA said my graphics card cant support the game, i have a GeForce 5200
