I spawned into game on the Irongator map, It took me a bit to realize that I was the only moving, everybody else was frozen in place, after about 3-4 Min's suddenly everybody started moving and a second later I crashed out off game.

I had shot of rockets at the carrier anti-air and when the game did start just before I crashed  two kills suddenly popped up.

What I would like to know is can a over heating CPU cause this.

I getting a bit pissed off with my PC, I even went out today and bought a 12" desktop fan to keep it cool, but its seems to be getting worse.

Heres some screenshots of the game when I was the only moving on my PC.

If your computer is getting hot try cleaning it out.  Then remove your processor fan and clean off the old thermal grease and apply new.  If your northbridge heatsink comes off pretty easy do the same.

As for your pic's, can't help you there.  lol

Yep done all that, just think my CPU is on its last legs.

When I checked the CPU temp in BIOS it was jumping from 25 c to 70 c and back again, over and over again.

It's not your computer! It's a problem with bf2!

God damn some people live under rocks!

70c is hot, but it's not going to melt your computer.

nVidia GPUs can, and sometimes do, run temperatures over boiling. Procs can infact survive hot temperatures...

Ok this rock dweller would like to know that if its a problem BF2, how do I cure it?

Ive been having stutter lag and heat problems for over two months now.

Also if I run my CPU at full speed sometimes it crashes windows. because t getting too hot.

I'm out of Ideas on what to do now.

I have replaced the CPU fan, added more Thermal Grease and now I am running the PC open with a 12" desk fan pointed into it.

So other to you.

SPECS

AMD 2700+ barton CPU
Asus mother board
2 gig of ram
Gforce 6800gt Graphics card

Anymore info needed just ask.

Paranoid, If you CPU is fluctuating in temperature then they're might be
1. A problem with your fan on your heat sink
2. A problem with your heat sink
3. A problem with your CPU
4. Anything else i didn't think off

Solution, Check to see if your Fan is dust free and working correctly, Also as suggested above check the bond between Heat sink - CPU and apply new thermal paste if necessary. If none of these work try a new heat sink or a new CPU

@Defiance
And GPU Temps are often a lot higher than CPU, They're designed to

Thanks for the reply, I think I can rule out the fan as its brand new and the paste because I added new Two days ago, I had a friend checkout the heatsink, so its probably the CPU.

Do you think if it the CPU, it can be cause all these problems in game -

Stutter lag (e.g. Get in tank start to drive, Stutter lag starts an when its finished I'm about 50ft down the read
without even seeing me move, apart for all the jumping)

Crashing to desktop (not the 1.03 problem)

Enemy's showing up as friendly and friendless showing as enemy's (this happens in the game on the mini map and command screen), I cant even lock on to enemy Helios if the is happening they show up as friendless on my PC.

Heres a Screenshot of  me when I was commanding on the SAS side on warlord, as you can see the Enemy commander is showing up on the command screen.

If it crashes to a checkerboard screen, check your NB fan.

Also, this should be in the tech section.

Could you borrow a GPU from a friend and swap it with yours?  This would at least rule out if the problem is your video card.

That's not physically possible. Are you sure it's not showing you motherboard and CPU temperature alternatively? Either that or your sensor is stuffed (more likely than 25-70 jump)

This sounds like packet loss, when my isp went a bit shit a while back I'd get this, run a speed test several times and see if there's any fluctuations, or try this:

open the command prompt (start -> all programs -> accessories -> command prompt) and then type "tracert " (without the quotes) followed by a server ip you usually play on, so I'd try "tracert 85.236.101.39", it will show you where your traffic is heading followed by 3 times taken for each hop in  milliseconds - as a rough guide none of my times were over 20ms and that's about what I ping when I play on multiplay.co.uk servers.

If any of the times are much bigger than the rest then there's a problem somewhere between you and that server, timeouts are bad, post the results back here and I'll have a look if you want.

Good luck

I know when I was having problems last year, it turned out to be the Power Supply.  I am not saying that is what it is, but that has not been talked about.

careful adding thermal grease/compound.  Too much and it quickly defeats the purpose.  Get Arctic Silver 5 - and use about no more than a grain of rice's worth - more like a BB.

That being said, none of your temps are THAT alarming, and the zombie thing is a known issue.

Dude that is some funny stuff.  What you are describing is most likely a software bug.  The likelyhood of a software issue is also expounded if you only see this issue on that map.  If it happens whenever you play that is another issue.  If it were hardware you would start to see strange colors, or a total lockup of the system.  When fans fail and things overheat it is really obvious.  If it were the Nort bridge or the CPU the machine will stall and lock up completley.  If it is a bad video card the same thing will happen and there would likely be video glitches and memory artificats on the screen (strange boxes of wierd colors).  These things are dsigned to lock, and/or restart the system.  You are definatly not seeing that, just a game crash.  This means it can't be anything that serious, so take a deep breath and relax (Good news).  Try a different game, HL2 or the FEAR demo.  These are pretty nasty games, and should load your machine similar to what BF2 dose.  See what they do.  If they work fine then it could be a really fraged HD and/or bad memory.  If they lock up then try switching the video card first.  Borow a buddies, or cash in yours under warrenty.  NVIDIA is pretty good about that.  But before you go that far, try a few simple steps:

If you want to test some options, yank you Network cable, reboot the machine, and just do a Defrag of your C drive and (if installed on a different drive) the one that has BF2 on it.  Do it before bed and let it go overnight.  Plug your cable back in, reboot and try again.

If that don't fix it then run memcheck.  You can find it in google.  It is a floppy that you format and boot off of, and it runs some tests for you.  If you have a bad memory alert, try removing all but one stick of memory and run it again (PS BE SURE TO TAKE CARE TO NOT RUN INTO STATIC ISSUES HERE.  I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU SCREW THIS UP).  Switch your sticks out till you find the bad one.  This could take a while with as much memory as you have.  If you find a bad stick of memory, don't use it.  Reboot and try the game again.  If you are still having trouble run a HD integerity check.  (Under HD properties)  Be sure to do the full scan.  It will proably say that you need to reboot to do it.  Reboot again.   (Stiupin windows makes you reboot to do anything).

If everything checks out and they report normal after you de-frag and stuff, then I would say that you found yourself a really good bug and EA would like to know about it I am sure.  This would also be a good time to try a different video card.  Borrow a buddies for a couple hours (REMBMBER THE STATIC WARNING ABOVE????   SAME RULES APPLY HERE!!!) and see if the trouble goe's away.  If it do then call NVidia.  If not, you got a good card.  You could also try the 1.4 beta patch as a last resort, maybee the trouble will go away.  It proabily will.

At the very least this stuff will  make life  a little better.  At least try this stuff before you go out and spend some hard earned on a new CPU only to possibly find out that the problem is still there.  Your mahine is fast enough for most of the stuff online. . .   Unless you are just trying to find an excuse for your folks / wife / whoever to get money for a new computer, God knows I have done that to get my machine's last upgrade.

Let me know how it works out.  This should keep you busy for a little while.  Good luck.  send me an e-mail if you need more information. . . misterwarner@gmail.com
