I just got some RAM and heat spreaders from Newegg.com, I plug it in, I now have 2 gigs. Start-up, try BF2. Loads fairly faster, then BF2 crashes when i click join game. Must be the luck of the draw I figure, start up BF2 again, loads faster than last time, click join game. BF2 crashes. My dad is telling me crashing means bad RAM. Is this bad RAM or just a random crash. I just pulled out the second gig and am about to try BF2 again with only the 1st one.
go to my computer then view system information and it'll say how much ram you have
Make sure to try it with only the new stick of ram also (or is that what you meant, not sure).
Run this program to test your ram ...

BF2 crashing to desktop is quite common but run the test to remove the ram out of the equation.

doubtful the RAM is bad. More likely you have it at the wrong settings ie voltage, timing, frequency. It may simply be an issue of needing to install it in pairs for optimum performance, or turning dual channel on once it IS installed in the right slot. If you have 4 slots, install the RAM in every other slot (most likely). There should be a diagram on the inside of your case or in the mobo literature if a custom built.
If BF2 is your only problem then it is more than likely the game only.
Since that is the only problem you have stated. The first logical step in troubleshooting is to try it with other games/apps.
Bring up your task manager and see how hard your CPU is working.. If it is harder than normal than your ram or mobo could be shot.
But i hope you know there is a well known "crash bug" in this game. I don't know if it would crash every time tho..

Nvm, it works. Just the bad luck of the draw, it was a complete coincidence how it crashed twice in a row after I put in the second gig, lol. Shouldn't it automatically go into dual channel mode?
I bought a new 1g stick of RAM a while back it worked fine but BF2 kept on crashing all the time at random intervals (this was pre 1.3) as soon as I removed the RAM in question it started working fine, and BF2 was the only problem that I had, replaced it with a new stick exactly the same and no probs. So to say that it is unlikely to be the RAM and must be game or your settings is not always the case.
It was the game not the Ram._j5689_ wrote:
