Hi everyone,

I have some troubles with BF2 after I installed the SF expansion, and the accompanying patch (v1.12). At the moment, neither my original copy of BF2, nor the expansion are working. BF2 did work smoothly prior to installing the expansion... Just getting past the initial screens takes like too long, but if I then click on the login button, it takes even longer and in the end I get the message: "there was an error connecting a socket". This happens when I start BF2 (original game) and the SF expansion. I am connected to the internet through a wireless network, am running Win XP with SP2, and am absolutely clueless what the h#ll is going on. If there are people who know how to fix this, PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!

Regards,
Wouter

PS I have just deinstalled the complete game, and reinstalled BF2 again. I now can't even retrieve my account info because after just one second I get the same error again as describe above. So, anyone, please help me out!

Try turning that off before you play. If that doesn't work, did you make sure that you patched with 1.12 AFTER you installed SF? If you installed the patch before the game, you'll ahve to patch again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was not running any firewall, so that wasn't the problem (yes indeed: wasn't!!). I've spent my whole afternoon deinstalling and reinstalling the game. At first, the initial attempt did not work, so I did it again, and all of a sudden it worked again. (in the right order BF2, patch 1.03, patch 1.12, BF2: SF, and again patch 1.12). I really don't know why after a full de- and reinstall the game wasn't cooperating, but it appears more people have problems like these, that they have to try more than once before the game runs properly. Oh well, resistance is still futile!!

Thanks for your suggestions though, I appreciate it!!

What exactly do you mean by "bf2 wouldn't run"? Do you get the same message as I got? Or is it something else? I don't think you can completely remove the patch. I am afraid that the only answer to your problem is to do a complete deinstall of the game, then reinstall it, use the original patch first (v1.03), although it is said that patch v1.12 includes that one as well. On the other hand, it can't hurt by using the v1.03 first. After every single installation of any of the components, reboot. You'll never know if it helps, it certainly won't harm you. Hope you will resolve those issues!
