Ok so i bought HL2 like 6 months ago yet i finally got to play it for the first time yesterday. Before yesterday i could never play it because my comp would always restart right after the Valve intro (i think i made a thread on this earlier but o well). However just because i had nothing to do, i exited BF2 and tried to play HL2 and voila, it worked! Surprised, i played for 5 hours, then went to eat. So when i come back i try to play HL2 again and guess what, it restarts after the intro just like before wtf. So i play BF2 again and try to get HL2 working and on cue, HL2 runs like a charm. So my conclusion is that after i have run BF2 on my comp, i can play HL2, but not any other way. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Possibly has something to do with things BF2 is doing to your graphics settings... Sounds like HL2 crashes when it starts making a request to change your resolution/frequency/some hardware setting. BF2 does quite a few of these things itself, so maybe it does the thing that HL2 crashes on in such a way that it doesn't crash on yours... and then when you go to HL2 it says "oh, that's already done, don't have to do it" and thus doesn't crash you...

Sounds obscure.

Updating your video drivers should fix this problem.

Yeah, this might help.

That's the XP/2000 version I'd make sure you have that
