I set it to half-screen and 30 fps and it still lags. Why does it HAVE to lag?

You're taking a screenshot 30 times every second.
How much ram do you use?
And you are probably using a normal 7200-rpm-hdd.
Try getting your hands on a Raptor (10 000rpm)

Fraps will ALWAYS cause performance drop, the best thing to do is have fraps write to a different drive than you're playing BF2 on, the gets lots and lots of ram.
I have 2GB of RAM which is as much as this mobo can possibly take and my hard drive is Ultra DMA if that means anything for the speed. I don't know if I can upgrade to RAID or Raptor drives. I only have one 115GB HD.

Hard drives are marked at a value using 1000 mb for one gb instead of 1024 mb per gb, so the actual number of gb you get is less than advertised.

Yeah its all the Contiunus files in your HD that takes that space just like mine i have 250GB but i actully have 234GB...
