Dude, nows not the time to build a new computer!!
If you can stand it, hold out until Vista's is released.
I am. You only have to wait 5 months max!
It will be worth it.

Man I read article on gamespot.com a few months ago about Vista and it's gaming potential.
I thought a saved it, but I can't find it!?!

But a few points I remember:

DX10 will be released with Vistas
Once Vista's is released, all the best new VC will be made for it.

Man thats all I can remember. If I can find the link, I'll post it.

Hey, don't forget to get yourself a good sound card, speakers and a decent headset.

...

why dont you get a decent card like a 7600gt, then get DX10 cards... wouldnt that be smart eh? and current cards can run in vista... just not DX10. and no one has an ETA for DX10 cards yet

I have a PC right now:

Celeron 2.66GHz...slot 478
P4P800-Deluxe
1G of ram...kingston NON-KIT 2X 512
Saphire ATI 9600 Advantage
SeaGate 80G SATA
....

So my best bet is to get an extra kit of 2X512,  and an extra HD...and wait...

Is that what I understand????

For Canadian purchases, lots of people recommend ncix.com
I have no experience, I'm American, that's just the word on the street.

Anyways, I also assume $2000 means CAD. So I'll make you a shopping list, and see what I can do:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 $420
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? … ture=Intel

Motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe $285
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? … cture=ASUS

Video Card: BFG 7900GT OC $299 after $40 MIR
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? … cture=BFG%
20Technologies

Memory: OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 $289 after $40 MIR
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? … cture=OCZ%
20Technology

HDD: Seagate 7200.10 320GB (x2) $256
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18409

PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700w $190
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18185

Optical Drive: NEC ND-3550A DVD+RW 16X8X16X DVD-RW 16X6X16X DL 8X/6X IDE 2MB Burner Black OEM  $55
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? … MITSUBISHI

CPU Cooler: Scythe Mine $51
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18506

GPU Cooler (thanks for reminder Cyborg) Zalman VCF VC900-CU $47
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=222247129

Exact Final Price: $1976.25

This setup is relatively similar to one I just ordered for myself. I put alot of time into researching parts, except for Optical Drives, which I usually just pick something that's inexpensive, OEM, black (match my case) and has decent customer reviews. Also, the memory I would normally have suggested is either out of stock or extremely expensive. I picked a good mid-range PC2-6400 kit with reasonable timings. OCZ makes great products, and has excellent customer service. Finally, I've got water cooling for mine, but the Scythe Mine comes HIGHLY recommended by many users.

Anyways, I hope this helps you. Have fun with whatever you decide on.

If you can find one. The fab machine broke and they're near impossible to find.

Waiting would be good...prices will drop with newer vid cards being released and Conroe prices should drop b/c right now they are in high demand. Wait a few months so Intel can get alot of them made and the prices should drop a little. You should not by a Conroe right now anyway...the support is just not there for them...give it like 2 months and there should be more Mobo's ready for them.
