This is idealistic thinking. Nowadays you can't be nice to anyone or you risk being stepped on. As this is a game, you should play it so that YOU have fun, not so that others can have fun because of you.
Oh I agree completely! Yet it's hard to have any fun when people keep stepping on you, thinking down of you and worst of all, getting kicked and banned out of every server attempted to join and play on. My kick/ban ratio count isn't high but it isn't any better knowing I've been kicked or banned that many times just because I was actually playing the game, getting the job done and then disavowed of my actions for being a WHOLESOME player, if not a teamplayer!

Still, I appreciate everyone's feedback into this, makes me feel much better knowing there are still some decent people out there to look forward to online.

I play the game how I like to play it. I always make a squad or join one and consistantly go for flags. Lots of points and lots of kills, even more so in armour (I play mostly the "chinese maps" nowadays).
I always try and communicate with my squad with VOIP, and the commander when im SL - including team requests (UAV/supplies/vehicles).
I often go AT to knock out the enemy armour (even more so on city maps, esp mashtuur). I often spawn at our CP's that have a tank trying to take it - and put a few rockets into it, since I know that nobody else will.
If someones yelling for a lift, I will pick them up - APC, AA or a heli. Only time I dont, is if they shoot at me and dont request it.
As for TK's - I punish if I dont get revived or a "Sorry Chief". I punish if it blatently wasnt my fault (i.e. deliberate tk's). If I ram one of our tanks with a jeep - I wont punish.

If im commander, I use VOIP to the SL's if theres a free flag or armour attempting to cap a flag someplace.

Its when you are ingame and you get invited to other squads, you know you've made an impact on your fellow teammates. Or your commander gives you every request you ask for (been there, had that).

I like to think of myself as a teamplayer - whether that involves medic whoring, flag capping, defusing AT mines or taking out that valuable piece of enemy armour, Ill do it.

I respect any player who is on his way out of a base in a vehicle, then turns around and goes back for passengers....

Right now I don't feel as respectful as I should be... trying to go for the 100 hours as sniper and medic, but oh how I miss Assault, supports okay too but I refuse to use the PKM, that gun's completely overrated and the other core guns are just as accurate.

I'm also afraid to use the VOIP function because the last thing I need is other squad members or the commander to tell me I'm retarded for not being able to cap a certain flag or something like that. Plus I've heard guys whose voices sound much cooler than mine LOL puts me in my place and I'll just run around silently using the ingame voice commands.

Yup, just like I expected, banned from ANOTHER server and their reason, according to the admin message was *BANNING!!! *"AARDCORE U HACKER! UR TOO FAST FOR US! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WITH UR HAXX!" and without even a reason's hesitation for me to ask why, I got banned... just for everyone's sake to know, it was a place called THE .BAD. SERVER

was a bunch of BAD tag clanners who obviously couldn't handle me and it was only two people doing all the work on our team, myself and the commander, who was cool, he was all ordering me around, commending me, screaming GO GO GO as I ran around killing EVERYONE... then I got banned

As again, no respect, no respect at all for a formidable player.

All fears of disrespect aside, I finally got my Officer, Major rank pretty happy I got it, and without getting ban/kicked out of any previous servers before hand! Course I felt all cheap getting it though, I was a medic and we all know how that goes so it felt a little unfair but I need the hours in. I could've played sniper but that would've meant me using claymores to defend flags but the server I was just in said claymores had ff off so that meant I probably would've been tking a bunch.

RESPECT ?????

you want respect ????

you understand its just a computer game dont you???

if you want respect go and help someone inthe real world - invent a cure for cancer - stand up for human rights

its a game so people do crazy shit... because they think its funny... and its just a game so its tolerable.

rules are simple

"have fun and dont go out of your way to ruin anyone elses fun"

respect for guys with uber stats - I feel the reverse - I see someone with uber stats and I lose any respect for them - I think "get a life" or 'what a waste' - specially since some guys get an attitude about having good stats - I mean get real - ITS ALL MEANINGLESS

you want respect - do something selfless

I understand the meaningness of your words there Yun and I do understand that this is a game but even in a game there should be an air of respect to be noted for, if not appreciated by people who actually care. Game or not, being considerate towards others shouldn't be border-lined just because "It's a game." In other words, that might be why clans exist (more or less) because it's a rapport between players who in SOME way actually respect one another. What I'm trying to talk about are people outside of that ring, individuals who do play with a rather selflessness like I would say I do.

You stressed good points that fit for the real world there Yun, to cure cancer, stand up for human rights, but perhaps just like in this game, in reality there are real assholes too who just would care less about either of those things either, not only that, but that would be taking away the topic of this subject, thwarting it from Battlefield 2, to reality, which I'm not trying to go for at all.

I have respect for people who play in ladders like TWL and CAL. Simply because people who do are generally better players. I mean this not only in relation to talent or skill in the game but also in their ability to exhibit good sportsmanship. People don't usually type after a CAL match, "OMG j000 guy$ g0t pwnzored!!!!!!!!11!!1", or some other piece of nonsense. Plus they don't play like retards like 3/4 of the pubbing community does. So I have respect for people who play this game with some intention of using teamwork to win and people who have some understanding of good sportsmanship.

I understand what your saying...

and I think good sportsmanship in any competition - is admirable

and I think good competitiors are worthy of respect

but ....

I dont think game skills = good competitor in many cases

and more often when it comes to gaming elitism is prevalent and poor sportsmanship the norm

Im not saying thats how it should be ... just how it is

unfortunately, and computer games are not exclusive in this, players use the game to boost their own ego by belittling others - Ive seen it on the soccer pitch, but its an every second occurence in many online games

probably because of a number of factors
- the age of the participants - teenage angst - I mean its the bread and butter of the school yard - survival of the fittest
- the anonymity - I can be a prick cause no one can punch my lights out - unlike real life
- feelings of inadequacy and insecurity - if your spending alot of time on computers - your not the captain of the football team spending his time screwing cheerleaders

theres all manner of unsportsman like behaviours - Im not talking about the TKing or written abuse - what about the jet guys who dont cap a single flag and just bomb run again and again - sometimes the enemy - sometimes their own men - do they care - they only care about that gold medal at the end of the round - they could care less if their team gets raped

and why - because that make believe medal makes them feel good about themselves

it gives them self respect

so is someone with good stats really to be respected

I think if people are looking for respect - looking for it in a computer game is like looking for water from a stone

look for it inside yourself

and look for it in the real world

and if you can find some in the Chaos of BF2, good for you, but i wont be holding my breathe for that day

edit: mmm equating how people behave in the game to real life - i think its a stretch really - Im a fucking wanker to people in the game - and Id like to think I was a reasonable guy in real life - although you could probably find some people that would describe me as a fucking wanker in real life too - but generally they are people for whom i have no respect

If you look at my stats you may see me as a disrespectful player.  But my massive TKs and kicks/bans are all from retarded situations (except a couple when i just started out and I was a total jackass.)  But anyways, I get all my tks from helping people.  Many of you who play wake will see tking and jet blocking ALL THE TIME!!!  So if I see someone blocking or about to snipe the driver of a jet/heli I will tk them myself.  My other tks are from people blocking...  Yes I might be a HUGE Jet whore, but I am working on being a team player and getting the US going from the boat to win the round.

hahaha once I saw a guy standing in front of a jet and the guy wouldn't move, so I tked him and took the punish since the pilot was too pussy to run him over.  It was so worth it.

I hope the pilot was well worth the TK to save for yourself because that's well worth the effort to risk your decency among another's indecency. This is great though! People coming in and showing that they are decent people in the Battlefield 2 community besides 'pwning' this and 'noob' that. Some humanity is still proven valid even in just a game, great stuff people!
