Maybe set the graphics to low.  Your computer might not be able to handle the current video settings, but if that doesn't work, I don't know.

Post you PC specs - all hardware - often this kind of problem is down to the hardware - for example I vaguely recall some dual-core processors can cause this kind of issue if you don't enable/disable/adjust a certain setting (Sorry, not sure of the details - I'm still on single core).

I have a dual-core system, try setting the CPU affinity to just the one processor and see what happens, I use a batch file and runfirst.exe to do that automatically
