so first off, i have a thermal take tsunami ( i leave the front door open to let that 120mm fan in the front suck in a lot of air ). and then i have a hdd cooler on my harddrive. and i have one of those exaust things that usually push air out the back set up so i have a good cross breeze going from bottom to top ( like i have it pointed up towards the 120mm fan in the back).  and i have the stock cooler in my am2 4600+ x2.  ( I'm thinking about getting the zalmann thing that supports am2 but the led is green )  and that stock fan is right in line with the side fan.  So my first question is, should the side fan be exhausting air or bringing it in (cuz i only have one fan blowing in), or should it be blowing in (and possibly competing with my stock hsf).  My power supply has 1 120mm fan sucking in and another blowing out btw.

my second question in terms of warranty, if i replace the stock fan on my cpu or my 7900gt with zalmann fans will that void my warranty?

just general cooling stuff (i'm not looking into water cooling).. so yeah thanks

In answer to your second question, yes a different CPU fan will most likely void the warranty on you athlon but should greatly increase the cooling.

And i see you are asking about adding more fans, but do you really need to have new fans because of a heat issue or do you just want more fans for the sake of having them. This will make a difference on how to put them.

different cpu fan wont void warranty me thinks... so many ppl w/ out stock cooler... if cpu is fucked you still need to send back the cpu

not really adding more fans, i'm talking about the positioning of the fans, like should the one on the side of the case be facing in or out? i know if you get a good balance you can actually create like a vacuum, (you have more facing out so it sucks air in and out quicker).. it probably has to be a fairly air tight case though.

And, i'm guessing that a vga cooler would also void the warrenty right?

i agree that most ppl do use different cpu coolers but according to this little handbook thing that came with it changing the stock fan does void the warranty

ok relating to your original question, i personally have my 3 side and back fans (80mm) blowing out and two 120 mm fans in the front sucking air in. This seems to work just fine as i have no cooling issues.

And about the vga cooler i really have no idea but it seems that it probably would void the warranty, but then again thats just a guess.

so then oem pcs avoid warranty coz of different cooler? dont think so

I asked the same questions re my computer today from where i bought it.

I too have a 4600+ and 7900gt.

The computer guy said cpu is fine. Video card is fine as long as you don't damage it and if warranty is required switch back to the original.

no oem pc's don't have any warranty from amd or intel. the warranty comes from the manufacterer.

get a small cooler and fill it with ice

you dont want to create a 'vacuum' effect in your server, that would just increase heat buildup. If you have a 120 blowing IN in the front and a smaller fan in the back pushing out, turn the one fan off you dont know which way it should go, and then see which air flow direction is naturally occuring in that vent, then turn the fan to help air flow in the particular direction.

Air is one of the best insulators there is, so maximum air flow gives you maximum heat transfer.

In regards to voiding warranty, how would they know what fan you are using anyway? Stock coolers are usually crap anyway so you are better off with a nicer more robust cooling solution to begin with. Same with video card I'd say. Odds are though, if you are lookign to upgrade cooling, you're gonna be doing some overclocking or tweaking, voiding your warranty anyway in the process so it wouldn't make a diff if the fan voided it.

As for airflow, the fan over the CPU will be blowing air away from the CPU itself, so towards the side of the case. I'd say that kind of dictates how you should position your fans. Best thing I'd say would be to help that out by having the side fan blow outwards, basically pulling the hot cpu air out. The front fan can then pull air into the case, and the back fan can push it out, creating a current as well.

I will have to post pics of my rig someday... it's not fancy, flashy or the best looking, so many fans... everyone says I will have lift off if I add another fan... but there is a constant supply of air!

the thing is though you want more air going out than coming in cause if its the other way it causes a great amount of static pressure(which i have no idea what it is) so you want about just as much air coming in as its going out.you want the side fan to bring in air btw.

Well IM not sure if this makes a difference but mine is pulling air in.  The biggest thing with cooling via air is to always have a constant smooth flow of air. You dont want to have tubulant or stagnant air in your case since that causes heat to build up.
