I was just wanting to know if anyone knows how to set up a Linksys Router (WRT54G v5) to work right with BF2? The only real problem that I have is the server browser. I had an older one (WRT54G v2) which looks exactly the same setup and all and it worked great. When I changed to the new one (other died) I don't show half as many servers as I used to.
My friend always had that problem. He would only show 450-500 servers while mine showed over 3000 with the exact settings in the filter setting on BF2. Now with my new router, I'm showing between 500-700. But never over 800. I have never changed any settings on the filtering of the server browser function of BF2.
I have my computer hooked through the ethernet port and not through the wireless. I am using the DMZ zone of the router and everything else works just fine. I even tried the port settings that is in the manual and ones a previous poster put on here.
If anyone has or had simular problems, some help would be greatly appreciated.

wow, i use the linksys extreme-g router...and i get around 500-700 servers when i search too. had you never said that was bad, i wouldnt ever have known.

over 3000 servers? thats...insane. i think the most ive ever gotten was like 660.

i dont really know what to tell you, other than i have the same problem. i just...never knew it was a problem.

Only thing I can think of is that a port is blocked. Found this with a quick search on EA's site:

UDP ports:

* 27900
* 29900
* 29910
* 27901
* 55123
* 55124
* 55215
* 16567
* 1500-4999

TCP ports:

* 80
* 29900
* 29901
* 29920
* 28910
* 4711

And on an unrestricted ranked search I get around 2700 servers. Also double check to see if you have accidentally clicked any of the filter boxes on the server browser, or have anything typed in for ping, map name etc.

If you are the DMZ host, try allowing anonymous internet requests for replies from the servers by finding the option somewhere in the security settings. Don't know exactly where it is on your model by maybe this screen will help.

Also double check to ensure if you have more than 1 computer on the router that your local IP address (192.168.1.*) is the one actually set on the router's DMZ host setting.

Sometimes if you boot up either computers in the wrong order, if you have DHCP enabled, the other computer (if one is connected) will get the IP address of the DMZ host because they booted up first, and vica-versa depending on which IP has the higher octal in terms of which boots first, as the router assigns the IP addresses in numerical order.

Thanks for the quick replys. I've tried the port forwarding and also have the Anon Internet Requests turned off but still don't que as many servers as I used to. I use static IP's for all of my computers in the LAN side. And my router only gives one computer for the DMZ and it is set to mine. I'm at a loss.
If anybody has any more sugestions, I'm willing to try just about anything. It's nice to have that many servers to choose from.
I just checked to make sure and I noticed that it finds around 800-850 servers very fast. Then it freezes (so it seems) and keeps the "updating server list" on the screen. If I wait it out, it will find 200-300 more but it takes over 4 minutes of waiting for it to finish. It stalls for about 20 seconds, then bursts about 40 servers, then stalls again. After the long wait, the message goes away like it used to and I can pick the server I wish to play.

You don't need to forward any ports, except you want your PC to act as an internet server.
Make sure intrusion detection/firewall is set up to permit "UDP bombs" or whatever it is called in your Linksys. I run a Cisco 1721, and its intrusion protection is giving me messages like that:

Unfortunatly, mine doesn't have a setting or log like that. The information above is the incoming log file that is on my router. It only shows my internal address, the IP and the port number. I've refreshed the log while trying to que in the server list and it pulls up the same log every time with the exact same addresses and ports.

All the ports in my log are in the port forwarding list in my router.
