Well, after not playing for around 2 months I wanted to get back into the game. I was already at patch 1.3 and everything should have been fine. However, everytime I tried to join a server I would get the unmodified content message. I have never downloaded a mod for BF:2. I would occasionally get it like everyone else before but that was just a known glitch. Anyway, after trying and fialing to fix that I decided to reinstall. I uninstalled everything except my profile. Everything to do with BF:2 to then reinstall it all. That did not help at all

Well, after installing BF:2 im installing SF. SF automatically tries to update your game to patch 1.1 but for me constantly fails. I try and update my patch manually to 1.3 but that fails also. Every patch update fails. I can't even install SF because the installation terminates when the patching fails. No matter what I try the patching fails.

Anyone have a clue what is happening?

Sorry I can't help you but maybe some techies could. But I know what I'd do, I would crawl into a corner and cry all day and night until Battlefield 2142 came out. Then I'd just drool all day until I got home and was able to play it agian.

Perhaps your RAM has developed some faults. But even then I wouldn't expect it to fail ALL the time, and I would expect it to crash your computer completely, rather than just say "Modified content". Although with RAM problems anything is possible, they're normally fairly random.

Um... You are using FULL updates, yes? 'cos you can't install the incrementals without having been 100% successful with the past patch.

I am trying to install 1.3. Fail fail fail fail

Sf automatically tries to instlall the full 1.1 which should work. Fail fail fail

Keep in mind: I have already uninstalled everything and just BF:2 is installed now.

What im most worried about is my account. Over 400 hours worth of time into it. This won't affect that right?

Install BF2...don't patch at all...Install SF (it'll patch automatically to 1.1) ...after that, install the 1.3 INCRIMENTAL patch (the 4-hundredsomethin meg one).  Done it 3 times, worked everytime.  Hope it helps.

And no, your account won't be affected at all...just make sure you "Retrieve Account" when you load up the game.  It'll ask for either your email addy and pw, or screenname and pw...your choice.

/sigh

I already said

When SF tries to auto update to 1.1 that fails also. Every patch fails.

have u checked ur registry? got to the EA site (mainsite) and go check the troubleshooting and what not for bf2. My friend had a similiar problem where he wasn't able to play the game at all. After uninstalling both vanilla and SF, and then installing vanilla, SF wouldn't install due to it not being fullly uninstalled>registry prob there.

Will that affect my account?

Hi VectorPrime ... welcome to BF2S!!!!

This is a quite common error that is caused by something that has become corrupted with your installation.  Fortunately, the BF2S community has noted several fixes that are summarized from this post with my clarifications:

Problem - Modified Content Error
Cause - Your Battlefield 2 Files differ in some way than the servers
Fix - Few things to try and get this Fixed.

1. A frequent problem is that one of your personal configuration files has become corrupted.  As a result, move your Battlefield 2 folder from My Documents to your Desktop before uninstalling and reinstalling.

2. Make sure you have the latest BF2 1.3 patch (use the full 1.3 patch and not the incremental, which has caused problems for MANY people).  Then install BF2 > then SF > then FULL 1.3 Patch.

3. Still doesn't work?  Try and update PunkBuster, to do so use the program, pbsetup, found at this website http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

4. Still problems?  Try re-downloading the 1.3 FULL patch (DO NOT USE THE INCREMENTAL 1.3, WHICH HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS) from a different website and install it again (steps 1 &2), maybe several times trying each time to see if it has worked.

5. Still not working?   Do a manual uninstall of battlefield 2, instructions on how to do this can be found here http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/ph … faqid=8986
Then reinstall Battlefield 2 and apply the latest Full Patch (steps 1 & 2).

6. You could have faulty RAM, try running a program called Memtest86 to test your ram for errors. Also try removing a stick of RAM from the machine to see if it helps running on just 1 stick of RAM.

Uninstall the game, then use the full patch!

Thanks, I will try that Orange.

EDIT:

I followed your instructions. When trying to install SF "Patching Failed"

Also, if it matters, when I try to manually uninstall it with the EA instructions it says"cannot delete polish_patch: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

I feel your pain.

I have spent 2 days, 16 hours in total attempting to figure out why whenever i attemp to install the 1.3 i get 'Patching Failed'.

I have spoken to EAUK on the phone and they are a great help. they told me one solution that would definately work, seeing as i had tried everything else...it didn't work! so thats the last time i ask them to help me!

I dont know what could be causing this, as i said, i have searched the internet for 12 straight hours, and 4 straight hours now...and everything fails!

many many many many people on the net are having the same problem as us and no-one has managed to come up with a solid fix.

E.G. one guy managed to get his working after uninstalling, cleaning registry, defragging, reinstalling, defragging, patching over 50 TIMES 0.0

I have tried over 25 times yesterday, and 3 times today....so now i am trying attempt 29!

I have downloaded my 4th 1.3 patch and am going to give it a shot.

Will report back

yeah....he is saying that when SF 'AUTO PATCHES' it says 'Patching failed!'

He cant get past installing SF because of a patching failed message, never mind the problems he's gonna have when it comes to installing the 1.3.

Lets try to get him past SF, then we can deal with the 1.3 patch later.

OK!

1. Try to uninstall BF2 and SF as well.
2. After finishing with it, manually delete the BF2 folder under Documents.
3. Check Program Files also and get rid manually from any leftover folders which are BF2 related.
4. Download and run this prgram: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/   let it correct all the mistakes in your PC...it's free and total safe. (You should run it weekly from now on)
5. Download the full 1.3 patch.
6. Do a total clean install of BF2.
7. Restart your PC.
8. Run Crap Cleaner again to see wether you have any installation problem or not.
9. Install SF along with the patch...I think it will go through now.
10. Patch BF2 to 1.3

Write us a reply.

Got it to work

Thanks for all the help guys. What worked was that I moved the corrupted file somewhere else then deleted everything and followed the instructions at the EA site that Orange posted.
