that's a bummer, I was really hoping that they would have a sniper rifle with a silencer or at least a gun with a flash suppressor. I think that would be extremely useful as a sniper would be completely undetectable unless he was spotted by a commander or UAV.

- no silencers or flash suppressors?
And that could be a problem. Snipers would become a kind of overlords.
Also I don't know if there is such a gun in the real world.

most M80's and later have a standard flash suppressor the silencer/suppersor impoves accuracy at closer ranges but it reduces the bullets speed so ineffective for long rang sniping
actually all the weapons have flash supressors except the pistols :pKkookie wrote:

the little thing on the end with holes in it = flash supressor. not that it makes any difference in the world of dramatic games.
heres one from the m16 and variants

yet they still have a big flash mind you.
Not as big as without a flass surpressor.
well the barret in real life has a thing that direct the flash backwards but doesnt seem to do that ingame.
Well, there was an article in our local newspaper about the Barrett being available to the general public that started out "when the military wants to shoot through tank armor at 1 mile, they use the Barrett" They apparently toned this gun down for the game so it wouldn't totally own, and the game turn into BF Barrett. Too bad, it would have been fun for a while.the_heart_attack wrote:

that's not a flash supressor, that's a muzzle brake. it uses the gases produced by the cartdrige to reduce the recoil a little bit. the force of the round makes the rifle wanna shoot back, and the gas + muzzle brake make it want to force forwards. it doesn't quite even out, obviously, but it's a HELL of a lot better than without the muzzle brake...the_heart_attack wrote:

the barrett won't quite shoot through tank armor (usually), but it is toned down for the game. then again EVERYTHING is. except for the knives.bgthigfist wrote:

i wanna know in what world 3 9mm slugs to the head won't kill you, but a knife to my boot will...
Yeah, BF2 really toned down the weapons. No man can live through a .50 cal sniper round to the chest. Nor can anyone live through more than 2 AK-47 rounds to the chest.
Actually, I read an article a while back.
Guy in the 101st took 3 AK rounds into his ceramic chest plate in Afganistan. Knocked him down, and got right back up.
VERY lucky.

yeh i know its a muzzle brake but its designed also to direct backwards as not all muzzle brakes do.ChiefCrash wrote:

what a surprise to see a comment like that from a 14 yr old.....rEdTe@M wrote:

Sniper Rifles shouldn't have silencers because, as pointed out, it reduces the bullet speed, and bullet drop becomes more of a problem. The BF2 Snipers are designed to be long range killers, not nessisarily scouts. Also, flash surpressors would make Sniper-hunting harder. The muzzle flach is my clue to where Snipers are if they're firing at me.

FirsLook on the bright side atleast they didn't give the semi-auto 50 cal. Here is an example of one.
I agree though about a soldier not being able to take a 50 cal round to the chest even with the best infantry armor and cermanic plates with it a 50 cal round will still penetrate and go completely thru the body. It might not go completely thru the back plates but will defiantly make it to them. (or vica versa)
you also have to consider something about tanks in bf2. A normal M1A1/T90 takes a crew of three minimum to run though use four unlesss a necesity otherwise. You have driver, Loader, Gunner, Commander. IN the case of BF2 the gunner is doing three of the jobs with whoever in the gun turret would be the commander. Basically in BF2 the gunner (the guy who actually lines up the shoot with the main gun and pulls the trigger. Is able to aim the main gun and secondary machine gun. drive the tank. (the driver seat is impossible if im not mistaken to get to from inside the turret you have to get in thru the driver view port.) and loader all at the same time.
Anyway I have no provlem not have a silencer on the rifles the pistol does fine for that. but it would have been nice to actually have a working flash suppressor. I went one whole 30 min round as a sniper without ever being spoted and got something like 19-20 kills.(was a 32 player on the SAS/speztnaz map with the armor convoy.) I used the m24 because honoestly i'm more accurate with it then I am with the barret. My point being if you use the m24 you can very easily avoide ever being detected. the trick is to always being moving to a new location and if you camp don't stay in the same spot for more than 5 kills.
edit: also watch for a while till you find out who the enmy commander is. Avoid shooting him/her after that unless you have a friendlies near by. The reason is once you shoot him he is going to scane/UAV for you usually then you really have to book it.

yeah the flash from the sniper is a big giveaway
hehe once i was chasing this guy throug my m-95 scope and while passing by a tree i saw a flame, then i saw a sniper with a m-24, well that was the sniper's end but the guy i was truing to snipe in first place ran away.

Yeah my strategy isn't perfect. If a sniper draws a bead on you and is a decent shot you'll probably die. but generally speaking it works.
I'm curious maton. Your the first person I've ever seen with the purple heart. Did you purposely try to get it? The reason i ask is liik at your stats i find it hard to believe you would get a 5:20 kill/death ratio in a round unless you were trying.
Also if you did do it on purpose why would you want a medal that you have to have a 5-20 ratio in a round. (i'm gueseing if you did it on purpose you got one kill died a few times got another kill and so forth so your death streak wasn't too high, but still.

well, i was trying to get vet repair badge, then i realized i have 10 deaths and just 2 kills, so i decided to get that medal, but it was hard to get it, because the most difficult parts is NOT to kill an enemy when you when you don't want ro kill them, so i respawn at main base and end of the problems
and yes its kind of sad to get this badge, but it was by the time i was addicted to awards< even sader

there are many, many, many people who have taken two AK47 rounds to the chest and lived.
Yes especially now adays with the drugs and other thing avaliable. But i would like to kno of one person reported to have been able to survive let alone fire a gun accurately after tooking a 50 cal round to the chest even with body armor and a surgeon on hand.
anyone see the video of the marine who got shot in the chest by an insurgent sniper, recovered in like two seconds and got his men to kill the sniper?
dunno what round the sniper shot, i faintly remember something about a .50 cal, but I doubt it.

actually there are sillencers for sniper rifles.. but dont know a rifle.. because snipers in real combat need to be stealthy..right?Mike<Eagle23> wrote:
