So many people expect me to be a Bible thumping maniac just because I'm generally pro United States.
Fact is, I'm extremely Agnostic, and hold some very peculiar views, which I feel compelled to share.

For starters, I believe the whole discussion about religion is futile because one simply cannot know what happens after life until we die.
Moderne discussions about string theory, quantum mechanics and such also seem silly because they are all " laws of Physics " only as we define them.

I was raised in a religous household and was told that God put all creatures here for our use, and that only we have souls. I always found this troubling because I have always felt a kinship towards trees.
It's as if I have been one before. I believe trees have feelings, they have dreams and relationships. Snails and rabbits have souls, if we do, I have no proof it's just something I hold to be axiomatic.
I've come to believe in reincarnation because of intense feelings of Deva Vu and knowledge and talents I have in areas I have never really studied.
I've had a ghostly encounter in my apartment and a near death experience whilst rock climbing, and I almost drowned once. These things helped me believe in some sort of a afterlife, but what could it be?
It is plausible to me that our energies transend this dimension and go on in a different form, but I digress from the reason for my thread.
Evolution.

dunno. personally, i think that the expanding force of global capitalism will dehumanise us to the point where biological evoluntionism will be kind of irrelevant, and the post-human state will consist largely of only semi-biological information networks that *may* develop some other kind of intelligence/intentionality that, precisely because of their difference, are something that we cannot predict.

edit: in other words, both religious doctrine and evolutionism are teleological accounts, and my personal belief is that something like what Damien Broderick called a 'spike' will happen (and Vernor Ving called the 'singularity'), where the course of human history is 'derailed' and replaced by something 'other', which cannot be accounted for from within the human perspective. Kind of like, if the dinosaurs had possessed rudimentary intelligence, they still couldn't have accounted for us, let alone the meteor that wiped them out.

Why presume that human evolution has any real potential at all? It has had a very brief existence so far, and it's actually a bit silly to presume that it will continue much longer despite all the odds that are stacked against it (most notably its own circumvention of itself: if survival of the fitest was really true and taken to its limits, we wouldn't be heading for the global environmental disaster for which we are,a nd so on).

How about the god theory. Not so much crackpot as some of that stuff, but it is pretty challenging to oppose. Keep in mind that its about spirituality and not religion so much though.

I agree with that statement, it's the sanest thing I've heard someone say in here & a lot more plausible than heaven or hell.
I think that we will help evolution along & genetically enhance ourselves in a variety of ways, for example a process already exists where they can add gills to your neck effectively letting you breath underwater, we will look to the seas in the future for more living area as it will be cheaper to get to than space.

In space it would be more useful to have 4 arms & so on ... it will take people a while to get used to the idea but as we need to find other places to live we will adapt however we can.

Congrats for being a forward thinker, now if we only had more like you.
