When earning the air defense badge is says to use a stinger or AA vehicle, but I was wondering if it would also count if you used the gun on the carrier.

I found that the best map to actually get those badges is the Euro Force Map "Operation Smoke Screen". I got my veteran AND expert Air Defence Badge on that map. I think it is the only map on which you can get 2 AA tanks at the same spawnpoint. Plus: 2 Aircraft AND 2 Helos per team plus not too many possibilities for airborne vehicles to dodge but some sweet spots to lurk for them in the AA Tank.
sitting in one as commander is also a way, the arty kills count as AA kills.
Its a cheap way to do it, but it works. Works for GD badges too.
