You can just save it right on to your hard drive, if you don't want to take the time to save it to your a disk (or God forbid, you don't have a CD burner).  It's alot faster because (depending on the computer) it doesn't take a whole lot of time to install the patch.  Unless you are really cramped for HD space.

Blovis, I have it in both places actually.  Its on the HD, and on a cd for those times that I format, or when windows decides to crash and I am forced to format (week and half ago )

Amateur, I have all the patches stored on punch cards. And I run BF2 from floppies.

Pah! I have BF2, SF, EF and AF as well as all the patches and mods I want to play, written out on note-cards, in long-hand, as a series of hexadecimal byte-codes.
Then to actually run and play the game I have to input hex-codes as 8-bit binary patterns using a series of on-off switches!
And my 'screen' is an array or red-leds.
