My friend and I have been running BF2 AF EF SF from work for many months.  Just this last Monday, the game started to get real laggy.  Especially whenever multiple mobile objects come into view.
I tried a new video card and even a new machine.  Nothing has worked.

My system info:
XP Pro 2002 SP2
Xeon 3.2 Ghz  2.00 GB
ATI firegl V3100 128 (med to low graphics)

it was working on that system for months just fine

I switched in a Radeon X850 XT PCI-e 256 to no avail

I also switched the computer to:
XP pro 2002 SP2
Xeon 2.99 GHz 1.00 GB
Radeon X850 XT PCI-e 256

We connect to the internet via a boosted optimum online cable connected to a switch in our network.  We get over 8 gb? (a very fast connection)

I also ran webroot,spybot,adaware,disk cleanup,defrag

I aslo unistalled and reinstalled the game in this order.  BF2,1.3,EF,AF,1.3,SF,1.3

I also close down webroot, ea downloader, etc whenever i play the game

Sorry, i stopped reading an hour ago this post is so big...

It sounds like you have tried everything.

I would do a FULL system format, a fresh install of everything should do it.
remember to delete game-spy junk in "Redist" folder in the BF2 folder as that
has allowed viruses into my PC.

A FULL FORMAT LEAVES NO QUESTION ALL JUNK IS DELETED.

thanx i was hoping to avoid that.

also, i was thinking it might be something with the network since two machines are both laggy

I would not suggest a full format and rebuild just yet.

I think that at least part of your issues are that you have dropped from 2Gb of ram to 1Gb.
BF2 uses 1.5Gb ish of memory. Given that XP need 200Mb ish of memory, over half of the game data is loaded into pagefile.
Think about what this does to the game. Every time an object is required by the game engine that is not in RAM it has to load it from the slow pagefile, and will often then load that data into RAM while pushing other data in RAM back into the pagefile to make space.

If you can get up to 2Gb of ram this will help. What you will probably find is that when you first start playing that you might get a little lag, but should run better after just a minute or two. This is because by default Windows will split it's memory allocation between RAM and pagefile, it will take time for all the BF2 data to be in RAM only.

If you have 2Gb of ram you can get round this by running without a pagefile.
I have 2Gb and do not use a pagefile myself, and get great performance out of BF2.

Just in case your issues are not RAM related, check a few other things.
Leave task manager running while playing to see if your CPU is maxing out.
Use the following console commands to make sure you are not getting video lag. Anything below 30 is bad.
renderer.drawFPS 1

I hope this info helps you guys out

If you are saying that you have multiple computers lagging, then it certainly does sound like network issues.

Maybe try running NetLimiter on all the computers in the house, that will let you see what programs are using your internet. Hopefully you'll see something on one of them that is sucking down bandwidth at the wrong times.

It doesn't recognize your memory! It says fail at your RAM. "Display Memory 0.0 Fail 128.0 "

To DrM,

I don't think RAM is the issue - if you read what he said, the problems were on his original system and then he tried other systems later.

To Von_Dog,

It sounds like something is grabbing CPU cycles to me.  Have you tried running an anti-virus sweep?  You listed a bunch of spyware checkers but not anti-virus.

You say it's a work computer.  Do you know whether other software has been installed that runs in the background, concurrently with BF2, something like Folding@Home or SETI?

Thats been happening to me as well.  A few weeks ago I noticed that it had gotten extremely slow at sometimes before speeding back up again.  It might be something server side.  I've double checked both my anti-virus and my spy-hunters just to be sure, even defragged and I'm positive its not my machine. Weird.

Can anyone help me with this; Yesterday i've been playing SF. I played 1 round Mass & 1 Warlord. At Mass i received a Good Conduct medal (last received 31-08-06 it says), but there are only 5 points counted. Check my history to see it. So i got a Good Conduct Medal with 5 points! Pfff...not possible man, you need 26 kills & no teamkills! Further i had to have a gold or silver medal which i certainly earned, cause i kept looking how many points the commander had, so i had to take some more flags to get the goldie. I did finish the rounds!! The server didn't crash, maybe it crashed later in the evening after i left. Could that be the problem? Or is it possible to get just a part of your stats....

Sometimes you just don't get ur awards or medals.... i got expert anti tank, finished the round and played another before i exited... even took a screen shot of the big event.... never got it!

a week later i got 40 kills again with anti tank and this time i got it for real.

Sometimes you just don't get stuff....

As for the first problem i would like to know what ISP you are with? Have you checked ur "server status"

If your Australian Optusnet ISP is having a problem with "inertational sites"... FOR A MONTH

Can't really play cuz of this shit, thanks Optus.

Tnx for the info. But the strange thing is, that i did receive my Good Conduct Medal + 5 pts. but NO kills/deaths are counted. And no gold and silver medal...
Its a update problem from gameserver to EA's server i think then or isn't it?

yeah it's weird i can run it for like 5 mins no lag and then it give the standard prob with connection and boot me. then i can reconnect and play fine for a while and then it will do it again. I am positive that this my machine is clean because it is just a barebones gaming rig. I use my mac for everything else. Just strange, i changed routers and it is still doing it. The only other possibillity I can think of is that it may be the peice of shit cable modem I have. It was one of the first to come out and I think it is past it's prime.

Marlboro, reinstall the full patch 1.3! This happens to most of the players cause its the fault of the patch.
Choose low pingserver with no more than 40 players. Try avoiding 64 slots servers....
