This has paened to me a couple times as well, but I solved it by reinstalling the 1.12 patch. If I had BF2 open and selected an SF map it would shut down then re-open in SF but I lost all rank/unlocks etc. same would work the other way as well, so it must be something on EA's end I'm thinking but after I reinstall the patch it works fine, so try that.
