I was just playing BF2, and my rank when I was playing at Datorbuiken Strike at Karkand was listed as private, I tried rejoining and everything, but still private. However, when I checked BFHQ, I still had my 9912 points, and was a Gunnery Sergeant. Happened to anyone else? Am I permanently going to be listed as a Private?!?
keep your pants on its a bug. Log out and restart. Problem solved.
were u playing on an Unranked server? everyone on unranked servers are Private.
No it was a ranked server, everyone else had their normal ranks...
I get this sometimes it something that seems to happen when your connecting.
i'm classed as private, can't select any of my unlocks and i pick up basic awards again and again.
Disconnect then Reconnect seems to work for me

Well with me after countless hours of kicking ass I finally got to Sargent but then just as i got my promotion one of my jack ass team mates got in the line of fire and died then i went out the game thinking i got promoted but because i got a TK i got DEMOTED i never thought it possible on BF, but all i had to do was go kill 1 person and all was good again.
as far as I know, there are no demotions in BF2 ( would be nice though, for extensive TKing and stuff ), except for proven stat-padders, who get their accounts reset.
As has been said here, the issue you were describing is a known bug. Just disconnect, restart BF2, and you should be fine.
