Hi, I'm not Mike here, I'm his good friend that recently got the game 2 days ago.
I'm having some trouble, I installed the game, no problem, went to EA.com got the new patch 1.3 downloaded it, installed it, the battlefield 2 sign comes up as it should, black screen like its starting the game, crash to the desktop.

Ive uninstalled the game, reinstalled and patched it up again, same bloody thing. Ive never played the game to check between the time i got done installing the program, and patching it, should I have done that?

IDK what to do how about anyone here?

Would be greatly appreciated.

The 1.3 patch fusked up everythjing and there is an 1.4 Beta that is slighty better. Or you can just oplay in 1.22 or 1.12 if you want.

Got to have something to do with your graphic card. Solution: Buy new card that meets up the requirements.

Question
Why does the game crash after a full black screen?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer
Crashing after a black screen can be caused by a few different things, including (but not limited to) an incompatible video card, older drivers for a compatible video card or sound card, or a corrupted version of Direct X. There are several steps we can take to try and resolve this issue.

    * First ensure that all of the games minimum requirements are met.
o The minimum system requirements can be found on the bottom of the game packaging.  You can also
search our Technical Support database for these requirements.

    * Also, be sure you have the latest drivers available for your video and sound card.
o Click here for instructions on updating drivers.

    * Make sure any unnecessary background tasks are terminated.  These tasks could interfere with the running
       of the game.
o Click here for instructions on ending your background tasks.

    * During installation, on occasion some files that contain graphics for the background, maps, players etc. may
not be installed, or copied to the hard drive from the CD rom correctly.  You might need to completely
uninstall the game try reinstalling it.

    * This could be due to various CD-rom reading errors.  While most times the game will display an error
about reading the CD, in this circumstance it does not necessarily display such an error.
o Click here for instructions of CD-Rom troubleshooting.

I don't know if this will address your issue, but I'm a huge advocate for this fix for AMD Dual Core users.  Basically, if your friend has an AMD Dual Code processor, you need this info.

This quote is from thread: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=13506

Dual Core Notes:

Hey X2 owners - here's a tip in case you weren't aware:

BF2 doesn't intrinsically support a dual-core environment.  This can run into problems during game play, especially on LAN games or when you are attached to a server with a very low ping count (Basically, high ping servers force your machine to run 'slower').

Resolution:

(1) Run Task Manager
    [Start]
    [Run]
    taskmgr
    [Ok]

(2) Launch Battlefield
(3) Alt-Tab over to Task manager and switch to the [Processes] tab
(4) Locate BF2.exe and right-click on it
(5) [Set Affinity...] to CPU 0 Only (Uncheck CPU 1)
(6) Close Task Manager, and alt-tab back to BF2
If this does the trick for you, use Imagecfg to avoid always having to go throught this.

For Imagecfg:
http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.php

follow the instructions for installation

here is the command to force affinity for BF2:

imagecfg -a 0x1 c:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe

Also this is my PC, Mike's is custom he built himself, mine is just a basic HP Desktop, my video card is Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family.

Im not a PC wizard as u may see.
