How would one go about making a shadow for image? i.e., taking a 2142 soldier and adding a shadow

The shadow and the size look pretty good to me, but maybe just soften/blur the edges of the guy on the right a little bit, so it blends in a little better.

I'm sure there are a few parts you could add a yellow/orange or red part to, to offset the greyscale tones of the image..
