I'm thinking of buying another 7800 GTX to go with the one I already own, and putting them into SLI. My current rig already has dual monitor display (x2 side by side).

If I have two cards in SLI, am I able to link up more monitors than just the 2?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has direct experience of this please, not just random conjecture.

Thanks

I would say yes since the dual monitor support comes from Windows itself, not the cards.

the drivers for sli shut off the second display adapter. that is why i originally said no. all though a quick google search lead to that solution. all though from the quick look i gave it, it may not be worth the trouble.

Dont do that, i have seen a television program called M.Net (in montreal) and he said SLI is not that good if you look at the price/result that you gonna have. to tell you the truth why spend 500$ one 7800GTX is enaugh man !!!! keep your money for other stuff .... !

You CAN run more than one monitor with a SLI SETUP... but AFAIK, you can only use ONE monitor while USING SLI functionality.... In fact, Im pretty sure that with say.. 3 cards you could run 3 monitors. But the real downside is that if you can't get the SLI support on all three monitors (ie all three cards churning a collosal output on three monitors) you can "only" get windows display on them. Not sure if the future will bring a more scalable solution. The link provided says as much, the poster seems to think its a limitation with his drivers.

Though I have to say that I'm not happy with the performance increase on SLI myself (I got absolutely NO noticeable diff in BF2, the FPS might have gone up a few frames, but it was already high enough that I couldn't tell the difference)... So I just exchanged cards with my secondary PC, and now I have two cards (a 7900GTX and a radeon 9500) running in my primary PC. It's nice to have the dual monitor support for creepy shit where you have to read of one screen and type in another, and a LOT cheaper than buying a 40 inch monitor where both windows can fit

Thanks for the responses. So it looks like I just have to buy a third crappy video card and run the other monitor(s) from that....ah well. Not exactly what I had in mind.

I'm doing it to future-proof my PC. And a second-hand 7800 GTX won't cost more than about £150, so I don't think it matters much.

As far I know yes you can run SLi on more than 1 monitor (the reason why SLi was designed in the 1st place). Not sure how to go about it tho
