This time, BF2 won't even start. Worked fine yesterday, but today, I try to play, the screen goes black, and the desktop re-appears. Also, when I scroll on webpages, its really slow and the page drags.

Waht the heck is wrong now?

So just delete the BF2 folder, and then try running BF2 again, and it will work? How would it work if the BF2 folder is deleted?

This generally occurs when BF2 stupidly decides that it wants to start the game in a resolution your graphics card/monitor simply doesn't support. This has happened to a lot of people since installing patch 1.4, since it seems to have rewritten peoples default profile. Some people are reporting a full delete/reinstall as working. Others are having success just manually editing their default/game profiles.

Oh yeah, it did do that, I exited the game, and my res was 800x600 instead of 1280x960 or whatever.

I understand that. But I don't understand how the game would run if the folder and all the stuff that runs and makes up the game has been deleted.

The Battlefield 2 folder under My Documents only holds your profile settings and screenshots.  They are not talking about the Program Files/Battlefield 2 folder.

I wasn't kidding, there is a good chance you have a virus, programs aren't running as they should and your browser is laggy. Download any illegal music lately?

This is what I did when I had the problem. Check manufacturer website and update graphic driver.

Why do you people post useless info like this?

Definately re-install video drivers. If you can't find them, lemme know what videocard you have and I can get them for you.

Sorry CrazeD for encroaching on your territory of technical expertise.

I should have said, try completely removing and then re-installing the application (turning off all extraneous applications) before trying any changes to hardware settings.

This enables you to troubleshoot the problem to eliminate the possibility it may be the game install which has corrupted.

If the result is still the same then start to look at hardware.

p.s. Do any of your other games have this problem?

The broswer is just fine now, and I know 100% that we don't have a virus, cause I haven't downloaded a single thing since 2 days ago. No music, no goat porn (Jeez Marlboroman lol)

I guess I'll just delete the BF2 folder and try again.

Two days is nothing, I guess that means you were downloading things.

People, listen to what this man is saying. This worked for me as well! I had the exact same problem this morning. Splash screen then solid black screen until CTRL/ALT/DEL and stopped the program.

Basically I went into my profile settings and the screen refresh rate had somehow been changed from what I set it and what my video card settings. The value was magically changed from 60 to 70. I simply changed it back to 60 (which is what my video card and monitor are set at) and saved it. I started BF2 and it worked normally.

How this value was changed I likely will never know. But if you are having this issue, at least check your profiles and make sure everything is correct with regards to your video settings.
