hi guys,   ive just orderd some parts for my new pc i want to build,: a conroe E6600, and a ASUS P5W DH Deluxe .
im not building it right now,  still got a kick ass system, and im hoping to get the new pc up and running in about 4 weeks, so i got some time to order the RAM.
I always overclock my pc's, and the new one isn't going to be an exeption.
In my current rig,  im running a 5:4 divider on the ram/fsb,  because im @ 270 mhz FSB,  and that is way to high  for my PC3200 2gb corsair XMS C2,  tried it once with al RAM latency as high as possible,  but it didn't boot,    DUHHHHH.
This rig runs fine as it is right now,  im getting 13000 score's with 3dmark05,  with a stock x1900xtx, so no problems there.
But in the new system i really dont want that RAM/FSB divider,   but i do want to overclock.
So my question is,   does anybody know which speed or ( PC....) memory i need for a overclocked conroe E6600.
i saw on numerous sites that the E6600 will overclock quite well,  even to 3ghz on air.
My rig is watercooled,  so i assume 3ghz wouldn't be a problem for me.
If lets say 3ghz would be the standerd for my rig,   on what speed is the RAM running then?.
So i can buy some RAM that runs on stock speeds in the above example.
Hope this all makes some sense to ya'll,   because english is not my native language.

Depends...

If you want to simply push the limit on the bus frequency ALONE... You need some pretty damned fast memory. And as you've experienced before, it's tricky to get the timing right. Especially on newer boards with multiple memory bus'es. So for upping the bus frequency, it's TOUGH to pick good mem. Trial and error (or simply going to the next "natural" level, though thats often too high) seems to be the best way to go.

For straight clock frequency OC'ing, the memory doesn't speed up anyway, so you can use pretty much any standard mem.

Good luck dude.

thanxs for the advice,  i really dont want to clock my cpu only,   i want the whole package
I posted the same question on a dutch site yesterday, and i found out the cpu multiplier of a conroe E6600 is LOCKED at 9.
So i got al the info i need:
a E6600 runs at 2400mhz,  that divided by 9 = 266 mhz, that multiplied by 2 =   533mhz ddr2
my goal is 3000mhz,  that divided by 9 = 333 mhz,  that multiplied by 2 =  666 mhz ddr2
for 666mhz i need pc5400 memory,  so  im getting or 2x1gb Corsairs pc5400 or 2x1gb OCZ pc5400.
