...for a price.

If the price of Blu-ray media is low enough in the future, I'll pick one up...but not this model.

#1 - it's first-generation. let Sony deal with the inevitable glitches
#2 - PC's can't play Blu-ray movies yet
#3 - media's too expensive. already costs enough getting DVDs.

DVD is still very capable for my current needs.......I have yet to see any tangible reason why I NEED this technology.  I'm sure this will change in time, but for the time being, I have absolutely no need for Blu-Ray OR HDDVD.  By the time I do feel a need (perhaps a year or more from now), it will be much cheaper and much better.

I've jumped on many a bandwagon in my time but not this one.......

Exactly. I'm satisfied with my Zip drive error, and am willing to wait to see if Blu-ray becomes common before hopping on. But it is interesting that Sony is already trying to market to the PC user.

Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
The only benefit im aware of is hd resolutions in movies and data capacity. I dont have a HD monitor or a huge data storage needs that go beyond 4.5 gigs of a regular dvd. PS3 and playing games in 1020p *if you got a hd tv* might be practical but for PC use it seems frivalous. But hey if you got the money..

Let's hear it for solid state! Unfortunately, blu-ray will probably have a good run before then, if it ever catches on.
