Well I cant wait to get all my software here from my shipment.  I just ordered another copy of XP cuz I lost my old copy by lending it to a friend and never seeing it again.  I cant wait to get it so I can do a full re-format of my hard drive and re-install everything.  I need it since I havn't done it in a year or so anyway.  I'm sure whatever is causing this that will solve.  But I'd still like to be able to fix it until I get all my software back.  This really happened at the wrong time cuz I got all this time off right now and could be using it to get my Sergeant Major, but I'm using it to troubleshoot this POS operating system.  I really appreciate the help you guys have provided so far though guys.  If I could give you more karma for this post, I would, hah.

Could this patch for this single game seriously screw up my whole OS?  Cuz I never had any of these problems until after I installed this patch.  I've never had this problem period and it seem like it would be such a simple solution.

Have you ran Malware scans lately? Try running Ewido, Spybot, and Ad-aware, Each find different programs and no one program finds them all so this combo is pretty good.

To manually open these ports yourself,

1. Click Start, and then click My Network Places.
2. Under Network Tasks, click View Network Connections. (Or, right-click My Network Places on the desktop, and then click Properties.)
3. Right-click the connection that you use for the Internet, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings.

Note If the Settings button is unavailable, ICF is not enabled on this connection, and you do not have to open any ports (because they are all already open).
5. Click Add to open a new port.
6. In the Description box, type a friendly name. For example, type File Sharing : Port 445.
7. In the Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network box, type 127.0.0.1.

Note You can specify the IP address of an internal computer. But you typically will use 127.0.0.1.
8. In the External port and Internal port boxes, type the port number. Generally, this number is the same.
9. Click either TCP or UDP, and then click OK.
10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for each port that you want to open.

I found these steps on Microsofts help & support site also (word for word) and followed these directions as closely as I could, but not sure if I did it right, cuz it still doesn't work.

I got to step 4 fine.  When I got to 5, I'm not sure if you forgot a step or I'm just not doing it right.

I assumed that after step 4, you meant "click on the exceptions tab" then "add port."  If not, then I dont know where else you want me to enter this information at.  I went ahead and entered all the ports in the exeptions list except port 1500-4999 cuz that wasn't an option for me.  Is there anyway you can elaborate a bit more about steps 5 - 10?  I didn't understand what specific "service" or "network box" your talking about either in step 7.  I do however understand what 127.0.0.1 represents though, but dont know where I need to enter that at.

I still dont understand why I would have to do ANY of this if my firewall and AV software is completely disabled!  And also have my PCs ip on a DMZ on my router so ALL ports are open to use without interference from my router.

FYI:  I'm running XP MCE 2005, which has all of XP Pros options, except to join a domain, I think.

Edit: This may not have anything to do with this; but shouldn't I be able to ping my own PCs IP and get a reply? Because I cant.

Also, I'm not able to ping my PC from my router.  This is also while my firewall(s) are disabled.  I'm sure this has something to do with it too.

Hey guys, I found this page: http://www.canyouseeme.org/

See if you can go there and see if those ports in the list are open for you guys.  It says mine are blocked (or that it can't see them).  But I think that's because I dont have anything using those ports right now.  So that might be why.  I also cant find a port that it CAN see.  And I'm using "Port Detective v2.0" to see what ports I have open and other services (such as this site) say that a port that I'm currently using is blocked, which doesn't make sense.  Can someone help me shed some light on this?

I have a similar probelom. All but 2 or 3 servers have a 2000+ ping. The 2 or 3 that don't are usualy around 200-300 pings, and I lag like crazy on 'em.

I was playing 1.3, then patched. After the patch, I couldn't play anymore. Only kills I could get were random nades.

Ok heres the deal... I have the same exact issue... Ive called EA tech support more times than i can remember and finally i demanded i be transfered to the next level of support... after 21 questions i was moved up to the next level of support (which was basiclly me making sure all my drivers and ISP werent the reason)... After that i was told this issue need to be looked into more and that i will recieve a call back (which i expected to never recieve)... But to my surprise a couple hours later they called back and after explaining for the 10th time i tried all i could to fix the issue the guy told me it must a 1.4 issue and he'll be personally running this by the delvelopment team and i should recieve a call back from them (the development team)... Well here i am still waiting and no call yet but im sure they know theres a issue... Just fyi for peeps with same issue...

Wait a sec.. after you guys patched to 1.4, you cant ping any other servers on other games besides BF 2, also?

My probelom is high ping, but its only on BF2. The other FPS shooter I play, I have regular ping on.

Anyone know why it would time out when I ping myself from the cammand prompt and also when I try to ping my PC from my router?  Or how I can check to see if those ports are being blocked by some other software?

Nevermind guys. I'm good now. Here's the solution that I found:

==========================

There are two commands you can try which should repair the ip stack.

Both commands should be entered in a command window. (run cmd)

netsh int ip reset (which should repair the stack itself)

netsh winsock reset catalog (which should sort out winsock for you)

This assumes that you have xp sp2 installed.

==========================

Just for future reference in case someone else has this same problem.

Thanks a lot for all your help though!!
