A country cannot be racist. IT can foster and allow racism, but ultimately it's up to the people to be racists.

And, no matter how hard you try, or how badly you don't want to be, you cannot help but be racist. It's intrinsically molded into our brain to distrust those who are not like us. I'm not saying go out and commit hate crimes because you can't help it, what I'm saying is that you are programmed to flock with those who are most like yourself. If you rebel against that (ie, a white guy who dresses, acts, and tries to fit in with the primarily black African American community), it is a choice.  And it's your choice to make, too. No harm done--friendship is NOT molded in to the brain.

Once you pass that part of your development where you can accept other races and types of people, then most people do, even though the majority of people will harbor some sort of elitism about their race, whatever it is. I have seen very racist white people. I have also seen very racist black people, and Hispanics, and Asians, etc...

This show is retarded. All Mark Burnett is doing is feeding off those emotions mentioned above; he is trying to polarize the viewing audience into following the group that most closely resembles them. CBS is a reprehensible network, too, for letting this happen. But it is happening; should be interesting to see what reaction there is. I kinda thought the world was over Survivor.

Rant rant rant...point is, the country is not racist, any more than Americans are racist. I know very well that someone is probably going to respond and say how not racist they are. People like to do that; they like to say how they like everyone and like all races...it's condescending, and elitist, to take that attitude. To say things like that is to be just as self-righteous as someone who stereotypes.

if you think of it how many coloured people actually live in america? ( not being racist ) alot! so if you had say a white person and a black person both worked at the same place doing the samr thing... i would have thought they wud b payed the same right? so thats not racism...

OK, if you're not from america, can I just say something. I don't have anything against europians or any other people for that matter. I like and hate anyone and everyone for the character they possess. So please, do not let anything you see or hear reflect our culture. If you would like to experience it, please plan a trip over and try to visit a large city and a small town. You will find that we are no different here then anywhere else. There is good and bad whereever you go.

You're kind of right. I would've used the term prejudice though. Racisim is a feeling of superiority over other races. Prejudice is stereotyping, etc.

Which everyone is guilty of, whether they admit it or not.

An addition to my last post. Last time I talked to some of my pals across the pond there, they had some mighty disparaging things to say about the Indian and Arab population that was moving in to the UK. They said things that, if you closed your eyes and forgot about the accent, sounded like my redneck neighbor's comments on how 'The Mexicans are takin' all our jobs! They're using up welfare!" etc...

There are racist people everywhere, like I said.

Yeah brah, and using terms like 'Redneck' is in no way prejudice, or a slander towards a group of people. Liberals piss me off almost as much as Conservatives do.

Is the show racist? I dunno. I do know it's total crap though. We have an adaptation of it running here in Belgium and the Netherlands and it sucks ass. I want an apology from the Swedish people for bringing this bastard of a tv show into this world. :-D

As to the USA being racist. No, though undoubtably a significant portion of the population is, just like in any other country where more than 0,001% of the population consists of a different race. I'm not gonna take a guess at the percentage.
