Well, it's to do with who deals damage to you.
If YOU were the last person to damage yourself, it counts as suicide, and you get the message "[your name] is no more". That's -2 points. This also happens when you press the "suicide" button.
However, if you die from... Well, lets say an exploding car next to you, and noone damaged the car for a while, you just DIE... No message, and you dont loose points.
If someone HAD damaged the car it would say "[guy who damaged car] [car type] [your name]", and then it counts as a KILL, and he GETS points, but you loose nothing.

I wonder can you get negative stats? Im sure its possible, by creating a new account and do nothing but TK and suicide. I would actually find it pretty funny to see a page of stats where the points are in the negatives lol. It would be like Bearz. Except with a crap load of - karma, it would be - points in the game.
yes you can, and you can also lose a rank. BUT you can't see teh stats page on bf2s 'cos the point limit is 100...
