I was playing Op Cleansweep the other day. USMC side. We had taken all but the helo base from the enemy.I was in the F-15 and was circling the island using the 2 capped bases to resupply. I came around on another run when the enmy arty went off right when I was directly above it. Obliterated. Next map was Mashtur and I was in a helo. Same thing happened. Has this ever happened to any of you ? It sux. I learned my lesson though. don't mess with Arty while your flying.
Yeh I whas flying the blackhawk in Mastur. I hoverd above the friendly arty for some reason, then the Commander decided to shoot the arty somewhere. The arty fired the shell wich hitted me on the belly .

Yep, it can hit you going up and coming down. It usually misses if you're in the air where it's coming down, but not always. And if you're sitting on the barrel when it goes off, expect to be dead.
I was in a full blackhawk heading back to get repairs.
After we got fully repaired the pilot flew right over the artillary as it was going off.
We all got teamkilled.

i was playing wake...came back to the carrier to load up on more bombs...enemy arty took me out. totally random, totally lucky...i was pretty annoyed.
I was a gunner in a Cobra on Kubra Dam. The pilot was flying back for repairs and ammo to the main base where the blackhawk spawns as it is closer. We flew over an artillery piece while our commander was calling in an artillery strike. Let's just say we went BOOM! WTF! Yelling over VoIP and then laughing.
One round I was playing as a PLA commander on Dragon Valley (64 player), I destroyed both a Cobra and an F35 jet in the same artillery strike!! The helicopter was just hovering over the flag (another example of an attack helicopter not doing its job; to attack!) the jet was a complete fluke as he was passing low presumably to bomb a nearby APC. A couple of squad leaders and ground pounders were yelling congrats and typing inane banter. Good times!
I have also killed another F35 jet whilst he was hovering over a flag in Clean Sweep. I don't know what he was thinking as that was the base with the mobile AA... also, one SRAW/Eryx will down him but that made my night.

I seem to be a magnet or something... I am always pwnd by arty, no matter if friendly or enemy... Even in a tank (!!!) I am killed... does EA make some accounts having to test the power of arty? it seems that they made me their victim -.-

Getting artied while hovering in a helo trying to cap a flag can be common. I'm talking about a jet at full speed being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Arty going up, not coming down.
oh....well ive been going at speed in a jet (around 800 mph or whatever their unit of speed measurement is) and gotten shot down by arty...it sucks...and its just bad luck. theres not a whole lot that can be done as usually i just fly through it without any problemsmongodv8 wrote:

Having the opposing commander drop Arty on your hawk while hovering over the water waiting for the spec-ops to blow it=ARGH!

Yeah, I was the only other person in the blackhawk besides the pilot on the map Wake Island 2007, I have no idea what the hell he was doing but he was hovering over the enemy artillery cannons for about 4-5 seconds and the artillery starts to fire, and of course one of the shells hits us and we blow up.

some time ago i was a gunner in the PLA attack chopper, dalian plant, i was partnered with a very good pilot ( which very much helped my about average gunner skills plus we had voip) and we were raking up kills and kill assists for each other and denying the USMC the ability to break out of the reactor base. we had just about taken out the last of the usmc brave enough to spawn there and were going back to repair and reload, so my pilot gains altitude to avoid any ground fire.
all of a sudden we see white streaks in front of and beside us (pretty cool actually) then..........BOOM!
we were like "WTF?!", then we broke out laughing and couldnt stop till the end of the round.
so when we respawned and got back into the attack heli, it looked as if both gunner and pilot were drunk as we couldnt fly or shoot straight from our laughing. we were pretty much useless for the rest of the round.
...... my one and only (so far anyways) arty hit in a heli.

I have had it happen while I was the pilot. Forgot about the arty below me. TK for the commander

I have had pilots fly over arty as I was shooting it off. TK for me.
So I just avoid going over the arty now. Been hit while capping flags but no random flying around as of yet

One of the greatest joys of a commander is praying and praying that the attack chopper hovering at a flag will be there when the arty lands and then manage to get hit. I've gotten a couple choppers that way. Best kill you can get in an arty strike.

I think some of you are missing the original poster's point here. I know because you keep regaling us with stories of getting bombed by arty. He is trying to say you get killed when you're DIRECTLY ABOVE THE BARREL OF THE ARTY WHEN IT FIRES, which is a pretty rare occurance.

This is something i realy like: bombing a carrier as commander. You take a look n the carrier an see how millions of tax mony are turned into tons of junk. Realy funny. There sould be a stat like "Material destroyd: xxxx.xxx.xxx $"ThomasMorgan wrote:

has happened to me more times than i'd like to think about...in both jets and helos, on the way up and on the way down...i do enjoy flying a jet through arty and rolling the dice, it's a rush especially since i know if i die i face all the tk'ing from others trying to get the jet
i didnt think it was possible for when it was being fired.
i always though artillery was
1) Gun fire animation
2) Spawn arty shells above target place

Exactly what I used to think. I thought the damage done to a hovering helo at flag was just splash damage also. So I wonder... How high could you fly above arty cannons and take damage ? Would they follow the actual arc towards the target they are aimed towards or are they programmed to always go straight up no matter what. You notice the arty guns actually turn when aiming.Coolbeano wrote:
