I had a fiber type pad that is supposed to be designed for mice of that type but laser ones seem to do better on harder surfaces.
How the hell do you hit anything? If you move your mouse like 1/4", it'll go all the way across your screen...

I personally just use about 2 feet worth of my table and ~700 DPI + 0.3 ingame sensitivity.

You get used to it. I started off just using it in armor for the turret to spin fast but as I played I got used to it. It can be adjusted on the top while I play and sometimes I'll bring it down when I bring my scope up. Never under 1500 though.

I didn't use mine for a while until a friend told me what he used his for - Push to Talk on VOIP or TS.  That just clicked in my head - so much easier to use the side button than find a keyboard key.

I use the mx510, and cant imagine life without two thumb buttons. Looked at the G5, because the feet on mine are getting worn, but one button? So I guess Ill be getting a 518. This new one just looks wierd. C'mon Logitech, two buttons good.

I use my side forward/back buttons for the map controls.  Forward=bring up main map, and back = scales map in main and mini map views.  it's nice to have those handy without taking your eye off the ball while fumbling for keys....

i had an mx500,  and also wanted to upgrade to a G5,   but when i saw there was 1 side button missing,  i left him to hang,   and bought a mx518 instead.
I use the side button's for : Yes/No  normally (page up/down),  im so used to this im never getting a single side button mouse again.

That's what I do as well.  The larger button is actually my reload, and the smaller one is for VOIP.

I  went a little logitech crazy,   I picked up a g15 keyboard and the g7 mouse.  I also picked up a 1030 surface mouse pad, it came with a bottle of anti-friction liquid.  My mouse now floats. I suggest trying it out

Can you aim and shoot while holding the side button down for VOIP?
I would imagine it to be atleast a bit harder...

I just got a G5, upgraded from a basic Microsoft Optical. So far, I'm not impressed. The weight adjustment is pointless, I've gone from no weight to full weight and it has no affect on me. The only difference from lazer vs. optical, is that the lazer is more finnky on surfaces with different colors. The DPI adjustment, I never use. And it gives me hand cramps.

This is just short term, I've only had it for a week. The jury is still out for the long term. But, right now I'd rather go back to my Microsoft Intelli-mouse Explorer that broke last year, even though it's not a "gaming" mouse.

I agree I love my MX 1000, it is comfortable and has great features, and the battery lasts forever.

Yeah mate I hear ya - the MX518 is friggin AWESOME. There is nothing bad about this mouse at ALL.

I am almsot tempted to buy another 518 to use when this 1 dies

Hmmz VoIP for side button? never really thought if it like that. I got the 2 side buttons set to prone and crouch.
VoIP is currently set to "O" and "B" which is convenient (i got a Wolverine gaming keyboard with the main gaming buttons set to the left of the main keyboard).

So you hate it because you don't use a single feature?

On my G5 I use the side button to go prone and switch to the gunner seat when in a chopper.
