A bit of a mission to read but any help as I have said, would be more than appreciated!!!! So read on!!!

Xp Service Pack 2
Packard Bell Pentium 4 CPU 3.06 GHz
1.00 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6200Le Graphics Hardware

That's my (yes poor I know) Pc Wank shitty Packard Bell setup. It's pretty much identical to my one downstairs which runs Battlefield 2 absolutely problem free.

MY PROBLEM IS...When I want to sit down have a nice game of Bf2, my pc locks up about 5 minutes into either a single-player/multi-player game with a continuous lasting sound, then my pc reboots automatically. It doesn't respond to Ctrl + Alt + Delete or anything. I have the latest Driver installed from the Nvidia website. Forceware 9.1.3.1 but isn't digitally signed!! All graphic settings are set to "LOW" anti-alaising off ect...

The Nvidia driver that comes with the Bf2 Cd is pants, it says

"The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setupd will now exit." A bit ironic seeing as I have a NVIDIA Graphics Card...anyway). Also I can't get my existing Nvidia driver passed for Windows Logo Testing Certificate or something...?!!

So that is the problem I have also tried re-installing Bf2 and experimented with different drivers although I downloaded a "driver cleaning" program to make sure all traces of previous drivers were un-installed although I didn't know if I did it right, but anyway, I had problmes before that so that wasn't it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help to the best of your computing knoledge!!!!

Much appreciated

****This is the driver that is on my PC!!! When downloading/installing drivers did you have your Anti-virus turned on, If yes your drivers won't configure properly. Try it again with it turned off!!

Let me know how you go and I will see what we can do if these things don't work.

Also if you do a fresh install of BF2/SF/other mods, only do 1.4 FULL patch.

GOOD LUCK

Hey, I have the lastest version of Norton Anti-Virus 2006 which I just turned off (including manually turning off all the other bits and pieces such as pop-up blocker and spam filtering ect), un-installed the Nvidia driver 9.1.3.1 by right clicking desktop, properties, selected the settings tab, then advanced, then adapter, then properties, , then clicked the driver tab then finally clicked unistall rebooted made sure Norton was all disabled then installed the same driver again... Played for 5 mintues got in a heli, then sure enough it locked up...

P.S

Oh I just read turn it off when "DOWNLOADING", should I re-download it with anti-virus turned OFF ?

As before I just went to my folder with patches in which I downloaded with anti-virus on...

I think thats a sound card issue.

What sound card are you using?

When you go into BF2. What does the sound options say(what settings)?

P.S. When you disable the anti-virus don't reboot, anti-virus will automatically enable itself!!

If you did a fresh install, ONLY do 1.4 full patch . Don't worry about the others.

Go to desktop(windows)
RIGHT click on My Computer
LEFT click on Properties
LEFT click on Hardware
Click the + that is next to audio and you will see all of including what sound card you have

The settings you showed are normal.

Hey, so go into device manager? Then Sound, Video and Game Controllers?

It says...In a list...

Audio Codes
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Controll Devices
*this is the one I clicked on* >>  Realtek High Definition Audio
Video Codecs

So I think that's it, Realtek High Definition Audio?

Right click on Realtec High Definition Audio and Left click on update driver(make sure anti-virus is disabled first).  It will then tell you if there is an updated driver, If there is download it.

P.S. Sorry for being a bit vague , I haven't slept in 48hrs

Have you done a full anti-virus/adware scan of your computer?

Also check in game options to see if it has changed your settings from Cable(256pbs) to T1(lan), if it has change back to cable.

Still doing a little research for you!!

We'll get it sorted just don't give up!

Yes it was on T1 Lan...So I put it back to cable...but that wont matter in single player?

Thank you for your time and efforts into this!

Much appreciated...i'll be on and off all night

Keep me posted

p.s Yes my Norton anti-virus runs full system scans every friday. At hasn't detected a thing...

if its locking up nealry 5 minutes into each game, then it is most likely NOT a a sound card issue, possibly heat related, either on CPU RAM or GFX... try playing a similar game to BF2 and see how that fairs...  Also on a side note, get rid of norton anti virus, its a HUGE hog of resources, get bit defender instead   There are free versions of it, so you wont have to pay :0)

That setting just sets your rates for online games and will have no effect in single player, depending on the packet loss on your line, it is sometimes more benificial to have it set to T1   If that was causing your problems, it would cause laggy game play, with you possibly being disconected from the server you were on due to connection problems...

I wont get rid of Norton just yet paid way too much for it (hog of resources? i'm not a pc whizz you see treat me like a dummy then i'll understand), put my CPU core temp doesn't get too hot! It barely runs anything!!!!

I have seen the temps and think they are all ok...I remeber 96 being a figure in the temp moniter thing...but not too sure.

Bit defender? As good as Norton?

Norton Anit Virus + Internet security uses a huge amount of ram, even when its running in the back ground, ram that can be better used for BF2   Bit Defender http://www.bitdefender.com/ is much better, uses far less resources, gets updated sometimes more than twice a day, is more simplistic and easy to use than norton, oh and doesnt have as many or any viruses programmed to specifically dissable and destroy it

96 what? degress? Your CPU should not be running more than 65 70 degrees MAX! if it is, try taking the side off your computer to see if that improoves things, or open up some windows and make the room cool or cold   What graphics card are you running?  if its an nvidia one, then you will be able to check the temps through the nvidia control panel...

Told you we would get to the bottom of the problem.

Solaris is right anti-virus will lower the amount of ram for the game if on in the back ground.

If any more probs arise ,i'll be happy to help!
If your cpu temp is 96 degrees celcius it is too hot, if farenhieght probably normal.

It's 87 using the Nvidia control panel, so get rid of Norton and use the other one yea?

...But I have a GIG of RAM!!!

Surely, that's enough...

I have 2 gigs of ram and with my computer at idle my background apps are using almost 512mb, or 1/4 of my system memory.  This is with my Panda software turned on and any other programs that load when my system boots (there aren't that many as I disabled most of them).

I think it's degrees not F...

Pretty sure it's degrees...

But I have 1 Gig of mem on the downstairs pc which is same specs as this one and also has Norton Anti Virus running!!! And Bf2 runs fine!!!
