According to Maximum PC, the Intel E6800 Conroe is better than the Amd FX-62

The lead isnt gonna last for long though.

SLI all the way! that usually means AMD.
Having said that, I have intel pentium d 3.4 ghz and nvidia gtx 7900 (not SLI) and it absolutely flies

isnt amd going to release AM3? Right now AM2 isnt that good, 0-7% increase from S939Phoenix2 wrote:

Whoever started this thread should go with amd because any am2 processor will work with the am2 socket chipset. Intel can get confusing with all the different socket chipsets they come out with.
Gaming - AMD.
Heavy Applications - Intel.
Both companies have known this for a while and stick to that method.

The core 2 duo seems to be better in gaming right now
And you are completely wrong.BMW330i wrote:

The 6800 he is referencing to beats the fx-62 in every game bench out there.
And if you want two graphics cards, 7950 ftw!SenatorMendoza wrote:

Not only does the X6800 Conroe outperform an FX62 in nearly every bench, hell a $330 X6600 (when overclocked) can equal the $840 FX62 and in many cases best it. Better and cheaper. How can anyone argue with that?
As much as I wish AMD still held the performance crown, it does not. I love my FX60 but when I build a new rig next spring I will definitely be going the Conroe route.

I see a lot of AMD fanboys in this thread who actually got no clue what they're talking about.
AMD rocks, it doesn't matter if it's slower and twice as expensive and yeah, be so lazy and don't get some transparency on chip sets. Save these 15 minutes of work and get the inferior product!
Honestly i cannot understand why people can be so blind and still go for an AMD. It probably takes 2 or more years to get at least on par with Intel.

Even the 180 $ E6300 if overclocked beats the FX-62.Not only does the X6800 Conroe outperform an FX62 in nearly every bench, hell a $330 X6600 (when overclocked) can equal the $840 FX62 and in many cases best it.

The core 2 duo has beaten the Amd in every possible test, no brainer.

I got AMD and it works perfect....my PC is running 24/7 mostly and no problems with it.
As much of a fan I am of AMD, I will always advocate that AMD is better than Intel, especially when it comes to gaming...but with the recent release of Conroe, Intel seems to be taking the advantage in some areas.
But in your situation, I would go with the Conroe.
