Good time for an upgrade?

So, the title pretty well sums it up.

With Conroe recently, and dx10 coming out, and AMD supposing to have their new chip next year, is it a good time for an upgrade?

I was looking at a system around e6600/e6700, x1900xtx and the typical mb (dq6 or asus p5w, most likely an SLI one), and was had received some comments that i should wait.

My personal opinions is I think the system i mentioned would tie me over well for another 1.5-2 years (maybe with a video card upgrade in there once or twice to keep up). I personally think once dx10 comes out next year, you are still going to have to wait another half a year before you start seeing programs that take advantage of it that are popular and mainstream.

Give me your opinion, god knows people on this forum have enough opinions to share.

well seeing as vista probs wont really make its apperance until next early summer i think the time right now is pretty good for a new system. maybe you could use a x1950xtx instead, but thats just because a mem clock of 2 Ghz (1 Ghz actual) sounds pretty cool. the performance increase over a 1900xtx is maybe 2-3%. as for the cpu: c2d is out and seems pretty bug free, quads are around the corner but at first will be expensive. as for amd. the die shrink does not automatically increase performance, these things also take some time

EDIT: oh yeah, the cpu and moobo choices are pretty good

i think thats the wrong way. new stuff is always nearly there and if i would have always waited "just the few days" until the bigger and better thing is out, i would still use my old p1
