I'm to build a new computer w/ a e6600 using ddr2 800 ram and was wondering what boards out there people would reccomend for quality and ease of installation.  I'm not looking for oc'ing really.  I've never built a comp before and I dont' want to get an ulcer screwing around w/ bios just trying to get it to post and function.

what kind or gfx card solution are you looking at?

I like gaming but buying 2 cards is a pain, especially when dx 10 comes out. No thank you.  Less things to worry about breaking anyway lol.  Probably gonna get like a single 7900 gt 256 mb or so.

I dont' really care if the mobo has sli, but I have no intention of using it.

in that case a mobo based on the intel 965 chipset is probably best. asus and gigabyte (DQ3 or DQ6) are usually cited as the best

Think the normal asus p5b would be manageable?

Go the memory manufacturer's web site and see what Mobos their memory is compatable AND TESTED with.  The tolerances are getting slimmer & slimmer as performance demands go higher.

Find a mobo that comes with an external gizmo that gives you reading on temp & fans - some of the Abit Guru boards offer that.  Always spit the few extra bucks for the "delux" or "premier" edition mobos.  They usually have a bunch more USB & firewire ports as well as more NICs.

Sorry that I can't give you a spefic motherboard to go with, but hopefully I've given you more to think about.

should do but the deluxe version is much better quality and will give you better tweakability (i know you said that you dont need it, but believe me, you will want to oc once everything works nicely, same with everyone i know)

http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3 … odelmenu=1. link to mobo i was talking about

Might as well pick on up, if you changed your mind, would be nice to have.

Well, seeing as you are in the same situation as me, and coincidentally, you are also getting the same components as me, I would go for the Gigabyte P965 DQ6 (well, thats only cuz i have now got it and it looks as if it will kick ass!!!)

can I get away with mounting the e6600 w/ just the fan that comes with it?  I haven't even done that before let alone add w/e else is out there for cooling.

the standard hsf (heatsink fan) will do just fine. only if you overclock you need a better hsf or watercooling
