Yeah Word has it the King was supporting this to, also its martial Law there so just stay inside.  Reports also have it that the PM was well like by the Poor/Rual people but hated by the Middle Class/Rich Folk.  he was a peoples man...

I also heard that some siad he jibbed the election ballet.

This is fucking ridiculous... tanks roll in, without a word, seize major buildings, in a state of emergency declared by (ex-PM) Thaksin. Next thing you know, they're out and about on their tanks on joy rides taking pictures with tourists and having thai kids jump inside. Wtf, seriously...

Well it's calmed down, military back to bases i think, normal thai TV has been returned, but BBC/CNN/CNBC are still censored. Internet is fine again. The power outage was incidentally a coincidence...

Also, the few bursts of shots heard turned out to be blanks for getting attention, as the megaphones were not loud enough.

I'm not really sure on where the King stands on this. First of all, everyone in Thailand loves the King. So much that even today, nearly three months after the event, people are still celebrating his 60th year since his ascension to the throne. People still wearing the yellow shirts, singing, etc. That's how much they love the King. And he's a very, very, humble person. But simply put, people like the King.

Except Thaksin. But that's for later.

The tanks/military personnel reportedly (according to the newspaper, which was, ever so conviniently, still delivered) started rolling into Bangkok after Gen. Prem had a talk with the King. And ever since that, at around 9 PM last night... the King has disappeared. As the military troops are all wearing a non-issued yellow ribbon, it seems they are supporting the King. But, the King wouldn't help stage a military coup, and he has said that he will ask them to step down, in the past if it ever happens. He's that kind of guy, and everyone knows it. But then the King seems to silently support this thing, as it's forcing Thaksin out and possibly into exile. Confusing situation still.

As for Thaksin, he's a politician, plain and simple. He's a lying, sneaky bastard who appears to be great and loved but does a lot of under-the-table stuff. Thankfully in the past year or so most of his operations have been exposed, such as stealing nearly 2 billion dollars from the state's treasury via a singapore-thai loophole, planning an assassination attempt against himself and have the officers arrested to make himself look good... (dunno how that works)... and yes, definately botched the last election.

There've been a few major major riots against Thaksin, so major they've had to close school, and I think the Train Stations. Several million people rallying against him. In turn, he creates a pro-thaksin rally... of about 300,000 people. Not enough. Yet somehow, in the snap election in April (which he, once again, found a loophole to suck money from the state during the ballots) won by an unbelievable landslide. He rigged it, definately. There are a lot of other things this bastard has done to Thailand, and it's definately time for him to go.

Hell, even in BF2 and CSS there have been hundreds of players with the clan tag [THAKSIN_GET_OUT]...

Now there are rumors saying that Thaksin staged this whole coup as well, like the assassination attempt. His associates in Singapore and India (and I think China) can help him sell off the rest of ShinCorp or something like that, and buy it back at a minimal price, only to change nothing and make another half billion dollars, taking advantage of the falling baht.

Well.... no school today. Off to lunch.

apparently this is somewhat of a regular occurence in Thailand, I had just thought it coincidence that so much Thai art/movies and such dealt with coupde'tat, but on the news they are saying stuff like "first thai coup in 15 years" like it was a record streak or something, might be an interesting read, but I've a feeling that right now all searches concerning "Thailand+coup+revolution" or the like would turn up pretty much the same current events over and over
