Dubai Ski is NOT the snow dome. Dubai Ski is a "traditional" man-made ski slope.. Take a look at the conceptual drawings again.

I think it's awesome too.. but I think they're gettin a little too ambitious. But more power to 'em.. because they're a role model to the rest of the Middle East.

I think that's the whole point.. They've realized that oil isn't perpetual, so they're turning the UAE into a massive theme park.

Used to live there, beautiful city, lots to do, no taxes. They'd have to build a giant city sized air conditioning unit (if anyone can build it, they can) before i moved there permanently tho, it gets far too hot in the summer.

I think its cool. The people of Dubai are turning their land into a giant amusement park. They are trying to generate tourism and secure the United Arab Emirates as the fastest developing area of the Middle East. I think I heard someone on T.V. say that Dubai is going to be the New York City of the Middle East.

As it is, Dubai only derives 6% of its GDP from oil. Most of the emirate's revenues come from financial services, warehousing, and distribution traffic. It's like a giant waypoint.

Dubai can't be compared to other countries in the Middle East. It is becoming a haven for western people who are looking to print money.

My GF grew up in Dubai. She lived there for 13 years. Her father moved there in the beginning of the 70's and he has told me great stories about the country and how it was almost only a desert when he first moved there and how it has lost almost ALL of it's original culture now.
