Does anyone has this issue that when you choose a map of BF2 or SF the game automatically restarts and then connects to the server you choose previously?

1. If you choose 1st a BF2 map and you disconnect and choose again another server with BF2 map works fine.
2. The same as above on SF
3. Restart when you play either the two one after the other.

Any help is welcome.

Installation is as follows;
BF2 & Patch 1.03 + SF & included Patch 1.1 + Patch 1.12

Thanks.

yea....if i load up bf2 sf first play for a bit....and then want to play a regular bf2 map whenever i try to load it up......it takes me back to my desktop and loads all the way back up and then goes straight to the loading/verifying data screen.....it gets kinda aggravating.....so i just make sure i want to play one or the other before i start playing

the problem is that the games act as two different games.  youll notice it only happens when you run one version and try to play a map of the other version.

i.e. you run BF2 but try to play a SF map.  or you run SF but try to play a BF2 map.  it also happens if you run BF2, play a SF map, then play a BF2 map.

its normal and happens to everyone...its kind of a pain and an inconvenience, but i wouldnt expect anything else from Dice.

I don't have access to the game code, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but here's my guess as to why this happens.  When you start up the game, it initializes many of the game settings that are contained in the mods folder.  You'll notice that there are separate mod settings for the original game and the expansion.  This is because many of the settings needed in SF are not needed in the original game.

It's designed this way for optimization.  If you didn't want to have to have the application restart each time then you would be required to have both mods loaded during your gameplay.  This would result in much more RAM being used as well as probably doubling your 'verifying client data' time.

EA's actually trying to help people out by allowing the in-game server browser to find both original bf2 servers as well as expansion servers.  They could've just as easily had the browser only find those servers running the game version that you are.  Of course, then people would find something else to complain about.

Anyways, it's just speculation, but it makes sense to me.

whatever the reason may be, it is not a bug, it is a feature....

Thanks for the replies and help. I thought that I was the only one having this problem but seems to be general.

Yes, indeed it is annoying. I would have expected a bit more better than going to the long waits. It is already enough having those pop ups and Nvidia, DICE etc at the beginning of the game.

I wonder how much you really have to pay to have a decent setup where you just want to get into the action RIGHT NOW! hehe..

You can delete the movies that are shown in the beginning of the game.

Just rename the folder MOVIES that you'll find under the installation dir, for instance:

C:\program\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

The click on MODS - BF2

Then you'll find a folder called Movies. Just rename this to something else. I call mine Movies_old.

Then you won't have to see the EA and Dice Logo and the start up movies aswell.
