K, will it make a huge difference in BF2 (and other games/programs) if I had a like 3.0GHz processor instead of like a 3.4 or so?

Would there be a noticable difference?

What specifically are you talking about, and yes, it probably would.

Well, say i got a computer with 3.0GHz processor speed, would it make much of a difference if i bumped it up to 3.4 or 3.6?

Cause I'm getting a new computer, and for an extra $16 i can upgrade fro a 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz.

I was wondering if it's really worth it. I know it's only $16 but still.

No you will not see a difference in game play with that kind of increase.
Memory and GPU is the most determining force with in game performance.

Thx Kmarion.

But like I said, for $16, it's worth a shot.
This is the system specs of the computer I'm getting:

2GB's RAM
7900GT 256MB
3.4GHz Dual Core Processor (Maybe on the dual-core)
160GB Hard Drive

And a few more things but I haven't seent he sheet of the spec's in awhile so I forget, with a total of around 1400$ Canadian.

Well, the fps will go up, but only slightly. Mine is 3.4 GHz and my friends is 3.2, and I see about 60-70 fps and he sees about 40-55. We have the sme specs bar that. Well... I have a little faster GFX card.... but about 100 Mhz Core and.... 600 Memory clock.

I don't know what the clock speeds are on a 7900GT. Cause the guys just put it in, I dunno if its factory overclocked or not. I'll have to see when I get it.

The difference will not be noticeable.

Dude, that is going to be a pimped out PC. Bigger is almost always better, and when you can get a CPU with .4 GHz more power with $16, that's like, amazing.

Make sure you benchmark it and post the results here.

In P4's you wont notice a fucking thing, but on Core 2 Duo's it does.

I have a single core P4 3.2Ghz proc.
It has never hit 100% CPU time when playing BF2.
It normally sits between 60% and 70%.

Kmarion is correct that GPU speed is probably the most important thing, and RAM is very important until you hit 2Gb, after that you get very little imporvement for more [at least in BF2].

A 7900GT should be able to play BF2 at 1600x1200, all high setting and 4xAA and still get 50+ FPS, ie it's more than most players are ever going to want [again, at least for BF2].
