I can't run bf2 without it locking up after 5 minutes.  The whole system freezes and I am forced to reboot.

This problem started after I hooked up my new monitor, a 2007wfp.  I also installed the latest drivers for my video card and sound card.

My system specs are:
Pentium D 820
2gig pc5400
X Fi Pro
7800 gt
2007wfp

I have tried a fresh install of bf2 and that did not work.  Oh, and I am also running the widescreen 'hack.'

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yea, this is really frustrating.  I have this fancy new monitor and am unable to play bf2 on it.

Overheating? Or maybe a PSU problem?

in the past i have had issues with card driver updates for my 7800gt and have been forced to go back to a older version. then it worked fine. Im currently on the latest one from the nvidia site (don't know number.) and i don't like it. The game seems a bit more jumpy and it doesn't have the same control format as the old drivers did.

hmmm yes,  PSU problem does sound likely, your graphics card will be sucking more juice. what power supply you got? 500w?

The drivers came from Creative and nVidea respectively.

My PSU is the Antec Trupower 550w.  I do not believe that is the problem.  I've had this machine up and running stable for over a year; have never had an issue with power.

Also, I do not believe my video card is overheating.  I am not seeing and artifacts and when I check my temperature after the reboot, it is around 60 degrees give or take a couple.

When I say the game lockup, it is a hard lock.  Can't alt tab or can't ctrl alt del.  Have to reboot.

Going to give that a try now.  Will let you know if it works.

Try downloading a program called Driver Cleaner Pro (google, mofo)  It will remove all of your drivers (if you select them) and you can start over fresh.  Windows holds and retains a hell of alot of driver so it can automatically detect hardware, this overides your selected and installed drivers sometimes.

I guess, just trust me on this one, it will show you dozens of drivers that you didn't even know were there, and it makes a huge difference.  I went from choppy, laggy, 45 FPS to over 60FPS just by using this program.

If all else fails, use the driver cleaner again and try using the nvidia drivers supplied on your BF2 cd, just to make sure it is in fact a driver issue or possibly something else. For me,  that BF2 driver worked better than any nvidia driver online until only very recently.
